I drove out to a shooting range this morning. It was windy and I had the place to myself.

I shot a round through the .375 Ruger and it looked dead on.

I then switched to my .270 and fired a round.

Then I looked up and just past the 100yd windsock and about 20 yds off the range, was the biggest buck antelope I have ever seen!

He had to be 16” or better. I watched him a bit through the spotting scope and as he fed out across the range itself, I followed him through the riflescope.

I never once thought of shooting him (I try and follow the game regulations religiously), but it was fun to pretend.

I finally yelled to move him off the range, but it was only after I walked out a hundred yards that he finally moved out.

Enjoyable interlude to say the least.

My cellphone was in the truck and I figured by the time I went and got the phone he would be gone.

At 100+ yards I'm not sure the cell phone picture would be all that anyway.

But it was a nice antelope no doubt.

Congratulations on your antelope! Anything over 15” is considered a really good prairie goat nowadays.

The one I saw had horns twice as tall as his ears as he was walking directly away from me with his ears straight up. His horns were as wide as his body or maybe a tad wider.

I watched him for a good 15 minutes as he grazed and walked slowly from about a 110 to out about a 150 yds.

I was using a Nikon 15-45 power spotting scope and then a 3-12 power rifle scope so I had a crystal clear view of him.

Sure made my day just to watch him.
