The huge Teslin area in the Yukon is under new management. Ken Reeder who sold his very successful Kluane area has now taken over the whole operation and has full control of the finances and all aspects of the business. The previous managers have under utilized this fabulous area for years so we can only imagine what will come out of the area in the first couple of seasons.

Since 2004 is Ken's first year of operation with Teslin he is offering some very attractive pricing. 10 day horseback or boat moose hunts will go for $8500.00. That price is opposed to $12500.00 for other comparable Yukon hunts. A mountain caribou or grizzly can be added for a reasonable trophy fee. A wolf or wolverine can be taken for only a $75.00 sealing fee.

Ken says a reasonable expectation on a ten day hunt would be a moose in the high 50 inch range plus a high scoring caribou or a griz of about 7'. All three animals of course might be taken on a 10 day hunt but booking a few extra days would increase the chances of taking all 3.

Moose, caribou and grizzly are abundant in this area. Also there are some very good stone sheep available.

A friend of mine did take moose, caribou, grizzly and a stone sheep in 10 days there about 4 years ago even under the old management.

If this is interesting to anyone just contact me and we'll work on setting something up.

Regards,

Mark

P.S. 2004 has quite a few opening right now but I think when the word gets out on this the slots will fill quickly.

No offence, but how is $8500 a bargin? I guess compared to $12,000 it is, but a trip to Russia will get you a bigger moose for less money... Moose hunting in AK and the Yukon is WAY over priced IMO.

I agree. The Yukon hunt prices for moose are way over priced. A fifty something inch moose for $8500 is not a bargain. You can get the same moose in Alaska at $5500. Perhaps this area was under utilized because it was overpriced to start with.

My son and I were convinced to hunt Moose with Widrig Outfitters some years ago. They have what appears to be a first class operation. But, I've never booked the hunt. Everytime that I've weighed to $20,000.00+US that it would take to do the trip, I've booked Africa instead.

Toby&Ivan,

I agree that trophy hunting is an expensive sport and moose hunts have become quite spendie of late. Since you guys seem to know quite a bit about what moose hunts really cost maybe you could enlighten me.

I'd be interested in who is offering a Kamchatka moose hunt for $8500.00. Also I'm real curious as to who in Alaska is offering a 10 day 1x1 horse back moose hunt for $5500.00. I'll research your responses and if they are top notch perhaps I can do some business with them.

Ken's statement that you could expect to shoot a moose in the high 50's tells me that your chances for a larger bull are very good. Also after you shoot a few moose you realize that width is only a very rough gauge of what makes a moose a trophy or not.

Regards,

Mark

You can hunt very nice moose with Alsek Outfitters in Yakutat, for $5500. After the moose, you can go on to pick up a Glacier Bear for the trophy fee of $2500.

Toby,

Thanks! I'll check it out although I don't believe it is a horse back hunt. Also Yakutat is one of the foulest places on the planet to hunt anything. It literally rains continuosly.

Regards,

Mark
