Does anyone have any info on the quality and reliabilty of this firearm? Also accuracy!

Are there any problems being heard?

Thanks for the help!

There was a review in one of the gun mags showing 1/2 inch 3-shot groups. I believe it was in the short action. I do not recall the caliber. The only negative I have heard is that they are so darn light that if you don't tie them down, they can float off in a light wind!

I have one in 3006 and love it. I had it since they came out, sub moa accuracy with all loads I have tried, including the Barnes and hornandy bullets. This is a picture from my first day at the range, I shot two different 5 shot groups, as can be expected from a light bbl the first 3 rounds were good and it opened up for 4 and 5. Recoil is not bad either.

You have no right posting those kind of groups with a factory rifle! I take it you believe they are worth the money. Have you had the action out of the stock and does the stock appear well constructed. Can you give us an accurate weight on the stock alone.

Thanks,

Jordan

Jordan,

I have never taken the stock out of the rifle, but it does appear very well constructed. All I have ever done with it is clean the bbl and mount the scope. I have no idea about the actual weight, but it is light. I mounted leupold rings and bases as well as a Leupold compact 3-9x33 scope.

The stock looks, from the picture that is, like the McMillan the Remington Custom Shop uses on the KS rifles. I have on they are very similar looking. Picked one of the .30-06's up a couple of months back and it felt similar but not quite the same. I've heard Brown Precision, however, I know the Remington Custom Shop is using McMillan currently. Regards, Matt.

Remington uses Bell and Carlson stocks. Thsi is about the Titanium from thier webpage:

"Remington is proud to introduce the lightest production rifle on the market, rivaling custom rifles at a fraction of the cost the new Model 700 Titanium Ultimate Lightweight weighs in at a mere 5 1/2-pounds. Constructed with a Titanium receiver and skeletonized bolt assembly, the Model 700 Titanium features a standard 22-inch mountain contour, 416 stainless steel barrel. Unlike other lightweight rifles, the Model 700 Titanium Ultimate Lightweight eliminates the weight from the receiver and bolt and increases bolt rigidity and cycling capabilities with the addition of spiral bolt flutes. And with all the great features of the traditional Model 700, this rifle offers the dependability and "out-of-the-box" accuracy that consumers expect. Bedded into a new B & C carbon fiber and aramid fiber reinforced, composite stock, furnished with sling swivel studs and drilled and tapped for scope mounts, the Model 700 Titanium just may be the ultimate lightweight-hunting rifle. The Model 700 Titanium Ultimate Lightweight is available in .260 Remington, .270 Win., 7mm-08 Remington and .30-06 Spfd."

That's a nice looking rifle! However, Weatherby's Ultra Lightweight steel rifles weight about the same. I believe a UL in .30-06 only weights a little over 5 lbs. I believe the UL .338-06 weights just about 6 lbs, but smaller calibers are much lighter.

Maddog,

The gun does not utilize an aluminum bedding block.

Ray,

I have a few Ultra light Wbys' this gun is much more compact, balanced and is still about a half pound lighter. In std calibers the wby's also have a 24" tube, teh Rem has a 22".

Ok, so which to get? The 30-06, or 7-08, what do you guy's think? Went down to Turners today and fondled the 30-06. Well worth some petting. But would like to find one in the $950 range. Know for a fact that the manufacturers price to the dealers is $889. You'd think that with all I've bought from them, that they'd give me a break. Have to do some shopping around. Do any of you have any complaints about the new J-Lock? And has it caused you any problems.

Phil,

I bought a 3006 because it was all that was available at the time. Assuming the magazine is long enough the 7-08 would be an interesting choice. I would even consider one in 270, but it is all up to you.

The recoil is not bad at all on this rifle so don't let that become too much of a consideration.

The J-lock is ugly, but a fact of life. I see no reason to spend more money just to remove it, so I will let it be.

Good luck with whatever you get, you will be very happy with this gun, I know I am. (I am NOT a Remington fan, this gun changed me)

IMO I do not understand why anybody would buy a 7/08. Its generally slower than a .270 or 7MM Rem Mag, either of which can be loaded down to its ballistics. Ammo is usually available in small towns but not necessarily in small stores. The one buddy who bought one on a recommendation wished he'd stuck with either .270 or '06, which are more versatile both as to upper limits and commercial ammo availability. This was in the deer/elk/griz country of the East Kootenays.

I'm not criticizing the cartridge. I hunted coyotes with my buddy's rifle once and liked its nice easy recoil. I'd just like greater flexibility. It would probably be an ok replacement for the 30-30.

Good points all of you. Basically I'm looking for a better or lighter deer rifle, than the 300 Weatherby Magnum which is the smallest rifle I now have. Turners has the 30-06 in stock, but not the 7-08. Cost for both is $1,099. I'm trying to talk them down a bit. My original intent was to locate an old 30-06 to put a Leatherwood scope on I have lying around.

Can't really see where the J-lock would be a problem. Unless maybe you forgot it was locked, and/or left the key at home. Can't really see where it is going to help keep some kid from getting hurt either! Just another stupid gimmick.
Turner's called me back, and seems like the 7-08 is in production as we speak, and won't be shiped untill mid-December. Like the idea of the short action. Too bad they aren't going to make this in a 308. Now you can start Laughing, but I'm going to mount that Leatherwood scope on it that I bought last year, and has been sitting on my desk ever since. Most cam setting's are for varriances of the 30-06, and 308. I was hoping I could find a good/cheap 30-06 somewhere when I seen an add for this Titanium. Wife's already warning me on the consequences of a new purchase. "This Gun is for You!" didn't work.
