It is too late to apply for this year, but for the 2006 hunting season I would be glad to host a service man or woman who would be interested in hunting antelope on a private ranch in Wyoming. I hunt on a 300,000 acre ranch in Carbon County, Wyoming (hunt area 46) and asked for and got permission to invite a guest (or two) along for the 2006 antelope season. Typically the hunting season for this area starts the last week of September. I usually drive from California and arrive the day before opening day and can stay for 4 or 5 days if necessary. As an extra bonus, if we tag out early we can find some prairie dogs to shoot. I will have a tent trailer to share that sleeps 4 or the person can bring a tent or other small camper. The ranch has a shower and flush toilet we can use at the campsite. A few conditions would apply: 1.) I would like to invite a service member living in or from a state that does not have antelope hunting so that they could get their first antelope. 2.) The person would have to pay for their application and license fee (about $234 this year) and their $10 conservation stamp. We would have to enter the draw as a party but in the last few years there has not been a problem getting drawn because a lot of this area is private property. If we do not get drawn the applicants get their money back, less the $5 or $7 application fee. 3.) The person would have to supply their own groceries and beverages of choice. 4.) I would be open to inviting a parent and child (adult or otherwise) or siblings as long as one of them is a service member. 5.) The person(s) invited have to have their own transportation to Medecine Bow, Wyoming. I don't yet know how I will pick the people to go if there is more than one applicant so I will probably have to have a drawing or something. Of course all of this is contingent on nothing beyond my control happening between now and September of 2006 to prevent me from going then, (Death, disability, civil war, etc). I am posting this now, because some people may need more than a year to schedule themselves leave for next year (The actual season dates aren't set until the beginning of 2006.) If you meet the above criteria and are interested, or know of a service member who might want to go let me know. I can think of a retired member that would be interested. Gene You are who you choose to be. Are you who you want to be?

Sir you are to be congratulated for the thoughtful, and generous offer.I know that the area has good draw odds, but with my bad luck offsetting it,I've struck out the last two years.Maybe I'll clip a $20 to my app next year.Dave

Active-duty only or Reservists and Guardsmen too? I did OIF1 and will be returning this September. With any luck, I'd be back in time for the 2006 season... though maybe late in the season. Regardless, I think you're wonderful to make such an offer. Thank you. Russ The doing of unpleasant deeds calls for people of an unpleasant nature.

If they've been there and done that, reservist and guardsmen have certainly earned it. They are eligible.
