Hey folks! A few months back I posted regarding setting up a mule deer hunt using only our old Model 94's. We just had it this past weekend, and had a great time. No deer on the pole though. (Although we did bag a bungee cord, and a cowboy hat, right Pete????) One of the fellas got shooting at a nice buck but missed (no names mentionned, right Derek????) Three shots at a buck, ist shot through a tree, and two hail Marys! A couple of the guys were trying to figure out how th mount thier binoculars to the tops of thier .30-30's.... Great time had by all and will be doing it again for sure! Anyone else follow through with this type of hunt? Woodrow

Woodrow, we're heading out the first week of November, and iron sighted lever guns (and a rolling block) are on the agenda. I think it sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. - Dan

I have been shooting my deer near my house with an iron sighted M-94 rifle in 25-35 for years.Sometimes I use the 30-30.... It is a fun hunt and always 100% successful..My grandson, like all my kids will use a 30-30 and iron sights to hunt with, it's the American way....I started them off with a cut down 222 and irons as they started hunting at a very young age.

the 30/30 should do fine out to 200yds.if it doesnt then something is wrong as the russian 7.62by39mm does great out to 150yds.and doesnt even have the power asa 30/30...
