Do you guys have any recommendations for commercial scents or home made lures?I have tried turpentine and campfire smoke, pine needles and ceder, stepped in cow/horse dung and covered up in fox/skunk pee. I Also have heard other hunters recommend peppermint candy sticks, peanut butter scent waffers and apple juice.I dont know about those! any of the gang ever hear/see any crazy scent ideas or see funny deer behavior towards scent? fellow told me he covered hisself in apple juice one time and the yellow jackets ate him up and ran him outta the treestand! He shoulda known better than that! Also will bug dope scare away game,do you bowhunters use it anyway?Need something to ward off the skeeters and blow flies and ticks, lyme disease is everywhere now... I only use Buckeye Lures from Ansonia, Ohio. I buy their urine. I drive up to their place 2 times during the season to get it fresh. Peanut butter definitely attracts deer. Anise definitely attracts deer and bears. Vanilla definitely attracts both. But one secret ingredient I have found that will cause a buck to throw caution to the wind is PANCAKE SYRUP! THEY REALLY REALLY LIKE IT. Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my guns

Over the years, I've tried about everything out there. The only thing that I can say positively got me a deer was Pete Rickards Apple X lure. There was a piece of land behind my buddies body shop tht held some deer. Up until about 2-3 weeks before the season, he was dumping apples out back. They would vanish overnight. So 3 weeks later, bow season opened. I knew where they were bedding in relation to my tree stand. One day, the wind was perfect, blowing in to the bedding area, so I soaked some cotton balls in Apple X and placed them across wind to create a 20 yard wide "swath of scent". I had barely settled into the stand when I saw an 8 point coming. He would take a few steps, stop and lick his nose. Then a few more steps, nose up, lick it and repeat. In no time, he was standing 20 yards in front of me, just slightly behind some brush. Wouldn't you know it, my shot got deflected by the brush !! I was kicking myself, when less than 2 minutes later, he came back, nose in the air, licking it, straight to a scent bomb. He was a little skittish, but I made that shot count. He really wanted some apples !!! I've used Tinks, Code Blue, you name it, never had luck with any of it, except for positive results with Scent Shield scent masking products. I was 5 yards away from 3 deer once (upwind even) and they were totally unaware of my presence. Elite Archery and High Country dealer.
