I may be moving to Missouri in the spring, it would be in the area of Alton, West Plains, or Poplar Bluff. Any of you guys from this area? What sort of hunting conditions can I expect? I hunt in Central Arkansas now. We will be buying land, hopefully remote, and I have been told that I won't even have to buy a hunting licence.

Hi Vernon,
My Ranch is a a ways North of the area you are moving to but I have been there several times. There should be good Deer and Turkey hunting and probably Good Waterfowl in some areas close by.

As long as you hunt on your own land you are exempt from licenses but haft to have them to hunt off your property. Good Hunting and Welcome to Missouri.

True, but you will need to get a tag. Any vender will be able to do this. I think for your first tag you have to apply through the Dept of Conservation with proof of residence and land ownership. This can be done via mail or at your local conservation office. After that you can go to any vendor and pick up your free deer and turkey tags. Small game is a no tag no license affair. I am not sure but you may need the federal tag for waterfowl and maybe upland game birds. I don't know I am not much of a wing shooter. Again this is for landowners only on thier land.

Deer are overpopulated and you can usually tag out the first two hours of the season unless you are real picky. Turkey is about the same if you can call at all. Feral pigs have been reproted in places and can be hunted without any kind of tag or license as long as no other seasons are open. If there is another season open you must have a tag for the game of that season. Coyotes can be hunted 10 monthes a year.

Guns laws are pretty lax and we do have a concealed carry law. Not sure about the specifics on it though. I just carry mine outside my pants for all the honest world to see. Big Grin

If we could just get rid of the humidity and some of the trees that clutter up the scenery it would be almost as perfect as you can get!

As a general rule, people are nuts!
