Which of the two sheep groups do you support? Wild Sheep/Grand Slam/Ovis or Wild Sheep Foundation? Any thoughts on either one?

I belong to both, only go to wild sheep show.I did the raffle that ovis has going for the last 5 years then dropped it last month.I'm not into awards of any type and have never registered any sheep, ibex, elk, etc.I belong to ovis to get the mag to use as a reference for future hunts.FNAWS convention is a must,as I go to the seminars and book my hunts. Most of the hunters are getting up there in age and doesn't appear to be much new blood joining.

I've been a member of both and have a "number" from the GS club....which they threatened to take from me/us who were no longer paying members. They backed off from that but it left a bad taste in my mouth, especially after GS/Ovis sued everyone for using the old baseball term "grandslam" to describe the taking of all 4 wild sheep.. Bob would roll in his grave if he knew how divided the sheep hunting groups have become! Zeke

Choose whichever you like. That being said as a Director of WSF I just spent 3 days in Washington advocating for wild sheep and policy's which will enhance them through out the US. That is but a small piece of what we do. Do a little digging and really start looking at the amount of work that gets done by WSF, their Chapters and Affiliates and I think you will answer your own questions. HVRHunter, I respectfully disagree that there is not much new blood joining. You may not have attended a <1club reception but each year it has grown to the point of last year we blew the doors off the place. I think the number was 800 plus, mostly younger Guys (and Girls). As one of the Life Member Breakfast Co- Chairs I can tell you two years ago we ~279 attendees. This past year over 500. We definitely had some issues that led to some chaos at the Breakfast but that was due to a completely unexpected spike of LAST minute new Life and Summit Life Members. Granted giving away a great Dall Sheep hunt to someone in attendance probably helped. I wonder what will happen this year when we give away a DESERT hunt? Look Me Up this year, I will buy you a drink. Sheep hunting, the most fun you can have while being completely miserable!

I have joined and dropped several. I have no advice except that I really enjoy being a member of the Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance. They are a younger growing group with lots of field opportunities. About as far from the SCI model as I have found. If you don't find a sheep group to your liking, please consider climbing a little higher up the mountain and join us.

Navaluk, In addition to Life member Co-Chair I am also the Chairman of the Chapter & Affiliates Committee of Wild Sheep. Rocky Mountain Goat Alliance is a great group. They also happen to be a Joint Affiliate of Wild Sheep Foundation. If you join RMGA you will also be joining WSF. Sheep hunting, the most fun you can have while being completely miserable!

Having been an avid reader of accuratereloading for a number of years nothing gets my blood boiling and motivated to finally register and post than the topic of Grand Slam/Club Ovis, i.e, Dennis Campbell and his pack of self serving more money and testosterone than common sense lemmings!!! First order of business is a historical perspective of GSCO, it's founder Bob Houselholder, and the term or trademark GRAND SLAM. According to THE DICKSON BASEBALL DICTIONARY, the term GRAND SLAM, originated in the card game of contract bridge, in which a GRAND SLAM involves taking all the possible tricks. As far back as 1936 the American Contract Bridge League used the term "GRAND SLAM FORCE". Professional baseball in America began using the term shortly thereafter. In the 1950's an outdoor writer by the name of Grancell Fitz first used the term GRAND SLAM to describe the harvest of all four species of North American Wild Sheep. It was not until 1967 that Householder registered the trademark GRAND SLAM associated with The Grand Slam Club. Unfortunately for Householder (whose checkered past Dennis Campbell and GSCO refuse to disclose) in 1962 the baseball bat maker Hillerich & Bradsby had already filed and received a trademark for the term GRAND SLAM. Sadly, Grand Slam Club founder Bob Householder was arrested in March 1983 on sex charges with four girls in his Phoenix neighborhood ages 10 - 14. He later was forced to resign his job at the Arizona Department of Transportation. All of this information can be found in The Arizona Republic City Newspaper dated March 26, 1983. If any accuratereloading members would like a copy of this newspaper article regarding Bob Householder they can send me a private email or they can get their own copy by contacting AskALibraian@oclc.org or directly contacting the City of Phoenix Public Library for back editions of the Arizona Republic on microfilm. Submit an Interlibrary Loan request to 1221 N. Central Ave., Phoenix , AZ 85004. The title of the article is, "Hunter arrested on morals charge". What GSCO and Dennis Campbell refuse to publish in their magazine is that many other entities have registered the trademark GRAND SLAM. Among them are the following: Denny's Restaurant - "Grand Slam Breakfast" Stover Seed Company - Grand Slam Perennial Ryegrass Blend Grand Slam Tennis Properties, Ltd. under license by EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis 2 (video game) by EA Sports International Game Fish Association, IGFA - Grand Slam Clubs (www.igfa.org/Clubs/Grand-Slam-Clubs.aspx Florida Grand Slam Club , www.igfa.org, HQ@igfa.org Even the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has a Grand Slam fishing records program in association with the IGFA. The point of this historical perspective is that GSCO had no reason to sue The Wild Sheep Foundation for the use or trademark infringement of the term GRAND SLAM other than their own self serving monetary interest - NOT WILD SHEEP CONSERVATION !!!. But GSCO, Dennis Campbell, and Tom Miranda would not be satisfied with just the trademark GRAND SLAM. They later stole with their money and attorney's bowhunter Chuck Adams previously registered trademark "SUPER SLAM". Adams had previously registered and received his trademark for SUPER SLAM in 1990 and 1991! Is there anyone out there who believes GSCO, Dennis Campbell and Tom Miranda did this in the interest of wild animal conservation? Just research Adams v. Grand Slam Club/Ovis United States District Court, Tenth Circuit, Birmingham, Alabama, January 10,2014, Charles C. Adams Jr., Plaintiff v. Grand Slam Club/Ovis, an Alabama corporation, Defendant. Unfortunately Chuck Adams lost in court and could not retain his trademark Super Slam. Again, if any AR members have trouble locating this court decision just pm me with your address and I will gladly mail you a copy. The point of all this is if anyone on AR truly believes they are a conservationist, hunter, and concerned about wild sheep conservation then they need to belong to The Wild Sheep Foundation, not GSCO! Hopefully with forums such as accuratereloading.com the truth about GSCO will be revealed to those in the North American hunting community. I previously sent all of this information to The Hunting Report Newsletter and they never ran an article in their newsletter. Could it be because GSCO contributes to Conservation Force and consistently advertises in The hunting Report Newsletter? Finally, if this long winded, and hopefully informative post, has the reader tired I suggest you go down to your local Denny's restaurant and order a Grand Slam breakfast. Who knows - maybe it will make some of us better sheep hunters!! Maybe as we are eating breakfast we'll read in USA Today or our local newspaper that GSCO has decided to sue Hank Aaron, Bud Selig and Professional Baseball for trademark infringement of the term "Grand Slam".
