I got my first elk ever on opening day in Colorado. She was a large cow. The shot was 75 yards nearly broad side slightly quartering towards me. The bullet was a 6.5mm 156 grain Norma Oryx moving at about 2600 fps. The bullet smashed the left shoulder and stopped under the far side hide. Bullet and bone fragments destroyed the lungs. The cow ran 50 yards down hill and piled up dead. The bullet retained 60% of its weight.

Congrats! May many more such memorable moments follow in the future!

I am looking forward to hunting season, which here in Montana doesn't start until the 27th. Hopefully I will bag my first bull with my new rifle.
Or at least if I don't get my first elk, watching my brother get his would be almost as good.

Congrats Robin!

Are your hands still shaking?...

If you don't think you can eat it all, I'm open for donations [Wink] . I think Elk tastes "beefier than beef", you will enjoy it!
