I have used MDL 70's since I first started hunting 35 years ago. I have numerous 70's and I do believe they are the Holy grail. I can see out of my right eye today due to the strength of the steel and action. I acidentally put a 270 in my 300HH. Wasn't pretty but the gun suffered no damage and kept most of the gases away from my face. That being said I would look to get a better price for a gun that has a worthless stock. If the price is right you can easily find full lenght stocks on Ebay for under $100.00. I have bought several to put on my hunting guns. I put the really 100% condition stocks in the safe .

Cliff.....deduct a coupla hundred dollars for the scope, and mounts, and sling, and the price seems about right. And the other advice about used stocks on eBay, or on the forums, or at a gunshow, is right on..........And in spite of Hot Core's venomous post, pre-64s are extremely desirable, as shooters, and collecters. Cliff,

$795 is a fantastic price for a pre 64 fwt 270. Like it's already been said, do not try to build up the stock with a spacer. It will look like crap when it's done. Save the money, send me a pm so I have your email, and I will help you find an original stock for it. The later ones aren't too difficult to find. Don't pass it up though, the price is too good! One other thought, a lot of people with original collector rifles, be it Winchesters or others, will hunt with a synthetic stock or something other than the factory original to preserve the condition.

snot bore: I see you are continuing with your ignorant and uninformed diatribe!
You pathetic piece of shit!
You would not know a fine, safe, accurate, strong and handsome Rifle if a yard boy ran up and struck you in your stupid fucking face with one (and thats not a bad idea by the way!).
Your contrary and unfounded views only go to support what everyone thinks of you! You are uninformed and ignorant beyond redmption!
You are stupid for stupids sake and no other reason! YOU WANT TO BE STUPID! AND YOU GO OUT OF YOUR WAY TO SOUND STUPID!
Get over your ridiculous rants against this supremely fine Rifle. And yes I think it is amazingly close to being the Holy Grail of the sporting Rifle world!
They (the old Model 70 Winchesters) will be around long after your senseless existence comes to a blissful end!
Thank God for the wonderful old Model 70's!
And thanks in a weird way for dimwits like cot hore that make me remember so often, how fine a Rifle they are!
Disregard ANY and I mean ANY thing that ot chore makes reference of!
He knows not of what he speaks!
Poor pathetic fool!
Hold into the wind
