Dear Hunters,

I am frequent visitor to the U.S and have been hankering for a Elk, white tail and Mule deer hunt. I frequent Texas (Dallas)and Minnesota(Minneapolis), and would give priority to these states and vicinities. Would not mind travelling a bit if need be. Am not seeking the world records for these species, but would definitely want to hunt in respectable areas which produce good trophies. your valued suggestions and guidance will be greatly appreciated.

Regards to all,

Ali

Ali,

If you post this in the "American Big Game Hunting" I am sure you will get a lot of responses.

In Minnesota, we have some large whitetail deer, but Elk are a all but nonexistent possibility and there are no Mule Deer here. We also really don't have big game shooting preserves here. We also do not have landowner tags, but then buck deer are over the counter tags here. Our deer season is rather short as well.

Minnesota is mostly run as a numbers not quality state by our DNR, so while getting a big deer is possible, the places you could do that are rather few and far between, especially with the wolf numbers going up in the arrowhead area of the state.

Close to Minnesota, the Dakotas might offer better luck with Mulies and Elk, but I think those are draw tags and might be difficult to get. Wisconsin is good for whitetails and Iowa also has a fairly busy guiding for whitetail business.

If you want to get all three at once, out in the western US is the better choice.

I would think that opportunities would be better in Texas than up here for all three, but expect to pay more. Some of the guys down there will know the particulars better than I.

You might want to give the guys at Texas Hunt Lodge a call if you want to hunt elk in Texas . I am quite sure they have white tail and I can't say about the mulies though. They can probably hook you up though . They have everything else too whether it be turkeys, or buffalo, or axis, or zebra. They are out around Kerrville, Texas .

Ali I have a hunt posted in the outfitter section for elk and deer in montana. These are wild animal hunts and we are about a 13 hour drive from Minneapolis. If all the tags are drawn you could technically hunt elk. Deer and pronghorn on the same hunt.

Malcolm Callaway of The Boot Ranch ( Google it) will give you a great trophy elk hunt, near Alpine,Texas. He has a large free- ranging herd on his ranch with some giant bulls. Elk are not game animals in Texas, even though they range wild & free in some areas. Contact him for a great hunt, any month of the year (that means - no closed season!). Ask him about hunting javelina as well, a unique Texas trophy.
