Was wondering if some of our Canadian hunters could help out here. What area(s) in the Yukon produce the largest moose? Largest caribou? Has anyone here hunted with a Yukon outfitter they would care to recommend? If you'd like to keep your ideas/opinions private please email me! Thanks.

John, I've heard that the non-res hunting fees have gone astronomic in the Yukon, but would like to get some confirmation on this. On the up side, I bet you wouldn't have nearly the hunting pressure in the Yukon you do in Alaska.

I'm not sure about non-res fees here, but we have some good moose and caribou as well. If you would like the names of the local guiding outfits let me know.

Daryl- Thanks for the offer, but we are wanting to get the Alaska/Yukon moose. I've hunted BC some years ago, great country! Would love to return someday but must try the Yukon first! Paul-

My Northern Canada moose hunts run $3950 in the Northern part of Aberta and Sas..about an 80% sucess rate on big bulls, the prarie hunts run $5000 and 100% sucess on some really monster bulls...Fully guided of course..I have some sho nuff hog bulls in Alaska with Phil Shomaker if you can kick the 9.5" Alaskan Browns out of the way so you can shoot. ------------------

Ray- Phil's hunt are great but my pal and I are looking to do a horseback type hunt. Wander about in the wilderness for about two weeks, like what O'Conner used to do! Alaska just doesn't have the right country for horses. But those big brownies are sure tempting!

John - I hunted with Dickson Outfitting back in 1997. His best hunt is for Dall Sheep, he has a ton of them. He has good Moose but it's a later hunt. They were still in the velvet when I was there. Most of his Caribou were taken by the Wolves. Dave is a great guy, I recommend him highly. Probably not what you are looking for though. Another outfit I'm familiar with is Ceaser Lake Outfitters. The guys name is Terry Wilkinson. I talked to him at SCI this year. I'm interested in possible goat hunt with him. Has a website www.ceaserlake.com He's down in the S.E. corner, has a huge area. The good thing about the Yukon is you buy seal fees $5-$25 for whatever you might want to take and then pay the gov't a trophy fee if you are successful.Caribou & Moose used to be $150 each. Of course you have the outfitter fees on any additional animals. Another outfitter I wanted to hunt with is Peter Koser of Koser Outfitters LTD. His brochure says avg score on caribou is 350-390 B&C @ 95%. On Moose he says 95% with an average of 60". Just from what research I've done in past, I don't think the Moose run as big in the Yukon as in Alaska. Don't have any idea on Mt.Caribou. Koser email is koser@yknet.yk.ca .Hope this was of some help.

John, Hopefully Daryl D. sees this post. He is pretty familiar with most of the outfitters in the Yukon and their territories. He guides for Chris Widrig, who has a very good reputation. I have seen some of the pics of his own moose and they are pretty impressive. If you want you can e-mail me for some more info. Canuck
