Just got off the phone with Cabelas. Won me a Once in a Lifetime New Mexico Oryx Hunt for next March. First time appyling to. I think it is in the Stallion range or something like that.
Yesterday, I won/bought a Utah Mt. Lion Conservation tag.
WOW, I am going to have to buy my wife something nice.
Just wanted to share my exitement.

Good deal woodsie, I got skunked again this year.

Stallion's a fine place to hunt. If you start planning and find you don't have enough help, let me know. I've enjoyed tagging along with a few other members and have become a pretty decent oryx spotter. Heed Pancho's advice also - he knows of what he speaks.

Here's some advice: my brother in-law got drawn for the White Sands range hunt last year. He missed the first one he fired at and killed the second one he fired at. However, he used a shirt tied to a yucca tree to find it later as he was a ways from the truck and yup! the wind blew the shirt off the tree and they never found it.

Lesson: use GPS to mark the animal if you have to go back for the truck.

Good luck.

Woodsie

Desert Ram helped me with my Rhodes Canyon hunt in February. I was hunting Mobility Impaired and still came home with a nice cow. He's a great guy to hunt with we had a blast.

Good deal Larry. You should have a good hunt, just be ready to get that meat cooled in a hurry.

I got to go in 2000 on mine, and have tried usuccessfully every year since. Luckily, I've gotten to accompany several others on hunts. Oryx are one of my favorites to hunt, and doing it vicariously through others is nearly as rewarding as doing it oneself.

DesertRam accompanied me on my hunt as well. We had a great time and shot a beautiful oryx. Good luck to all who drew this year.

I am from the high plains Clovis, NM we are the home of Cannon Air Force Base Special Ops.
I have shot many of these critters in Namibia. The Holy Grail of New Mexico are the big ELK and a White Sands Oryx. Our sheep hunts are totally impossible to draw. 83% of the less than 10 tags go to NON Residents in the last 5 years I still put in but its like buying a lottery ticket. But we have Auodad they are great to hunt also. Leaving Wed. for a big one.
By the way Desert Ram do you have a badge for the badge hunt.

Nope, no badge. I understand that there's another badging requirement this year in addition to the typical WSMR hunt badge. One had to have applied for it before February 3 to get all the paperwork through. If you don't have it now, you won't get it this year.
