What guns can u hunt with for Maine bears and what do you recommend. Also do they allow semi's. I am asking for a friend of mine.

You can use any caliber you want, as long as its not a .22 and yes you can use a semi-auto.What was your friend thinking of using?

I used a 30.06. While I was in camp, I saw hunters with 243s, 300wmags, shotguns: pump and semi auto.

Over bait, just about any good hunting rifle will do, I prefer a big slow bonecrusher...
With hounds, something quick handling and easy to carry.
308, 30-06, 7mm mags, 300mags are very common to see at camp.
45-70 with big cast works well for me...

Over bait or with hounds will be a close encounter deal, lots of fun...
