Friend of mine is in University and is supposed to write a paper about something contraversial in regards to wildlife management (banning spring bear hunt in Ontario for example). I figured since there are some experieced members on this board it might be a good place to ask if anyone knew of some examples to give him an idea what to look for on the subject. Thanks for any comments.

If you want controversial, just raise the "high-fence" issue. That'll get folks going. _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

kman, Heck, I'd have your buddy just look at the thread on the Montanta bison hunt. That's pretty contraversial. He could also do one on hunting elephant, rhino, etc., and how it funds wildlife managment. Have him read "Something of value" by Rourke. -Steve -------- www.zonedar.com If you can't be a good example, be a horrible warning DRSS C&H 475 NE --------

The whole of plains game hunting in RSA could be considered controversial. It's OK with me but there are those that may object.....(as if we care) I think the #1 controversial issue is the introduction of wolves to the western states. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." How about wolf reintroduction. A thinly disguised attempt to end sport hunting. Wether they want to admitt it or not the reintroduction of wolves is going to completley stop sprot hunting in many areas due to over predation of indiginous animals. Areas where wolves have moved into are experiencinf up to 90% calf mortality. That ought to be a good start for a paper.

Whitetail Management is a Good "Contraversial" topic as well. Around here every state has totaly different rules regarding size limits and bag limits and each state seems to think they have the "Best" rules for Trophy Management which is total Hog Wash IMO. The only local state that has tried and true hard evidence to back it up is Texas so, they must be doing something right w/ their game laws. The problem w/ our Game Officials is they are so darn arrogant, they will not listen to landowners thoughts even though they have had success in the way they manage their herd. It's pathetic. I'm sort of with Reloader. How about antler restrictions and whether or not they work in the long term. FWIW, it appears that it is great for the first 4-5 years then the antler sizes begin to drop significantly as the spikes and small antlered deer become dominant and do most of the breeding. Check Mississippi and Pennsylvania where they may be dropping the practice. Larry "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history, when everybody stands around reloading" -- Thomas Jefferson
