Two centerfire rifles for the world
.30-06 and for backup, another .30-06 identical to the first. Or, I could be persuaded that a 6.5x55 and a 9.3x62 could cover anything I'd want to shoot.

Make mine a 30-06 and 375 H&H. And to simplify it I will only need 3 loads total between them and each will be sighted to about the same POI for all bullets, which means no guess work or trajectories to confuse with one another. And with this I will take all the game from 100 pounds on up to the largest critters.

Beeing a Swedish citizen,I could probably get away with a 6,5x55 but, nope! Instead I would go with my trusty old 9,3x62 and a 7x57R (single shot). Between these two there is not much that I couldn't handle - at least anything I would care to hunt!

I'm going to try and be a real smarty pants and have one gun for wing, varmint, big game and african shooting. I am suggesting this for you, I wouldn't want it!

A 3 barrel drilling

12 bore 'paragon' choked 1/4 ie rifle choked and able to fire slug accurately with a decent all round shot pattern

6x57rimmed 85gr varmint bullets and 160gr heavy weights

470 Nitro - ouch

Of course you wouldn't be able to get any ammo any where (apart from the 12 bore) and by the time you had it regulated, it and your shoulder would be worn out. I would love to see the results of wrong barrel - 470 woodchuck, birdshot boar, slug pheasant,6.5 elephant!

my 30/06 and my 505gibbs,for worldwide.
If staying on this side of the pond, then
my 7mm/08BLR and my 50alaskan 1895Marlin wouldbe all I ever need.

OR just my 375H&H for everything!

If somebody else foot the bill: One Mauser M-98 magnum in 416 Rigby and a matching m-98 in 30-06.
Lacking sponsorship, my current 6.5x55 swedish army mauser and 9.3x62 Husqvarna m-98 will do me fine, thank you.

Since I am a Husqvarna nut, I would have to go with my Husqvarna model 1600H (thats a full or Mannlicher stock)in 7x57 and my Husqvarna model 410 double rifle in 9.3x74R.

Sorry, I am only interested about hunting in Alaska, so a stainless .338 magnum, and a .30-06 (both CRF).

<30 cal>
I'd go with a 6.5mm STW for the little stuff and a .416 rigby or weatherby for the big critters.

I would have to choose a 222 Rem. and a 375 or 338...

My vote goes for .30-06 and .416 Rem. partly 'cause I have one and want the other.

Ray, guit trying to sneak more guns in, or are ya just trying to get enough posts for another CD?

Of course I could live with 375 RUM and 375 RUM also. I know at least one fellow who might go with 375/404 and 375/404.

It's simple for me...I choose what I have had the most luck with.

7mm Rem Mag with 175 gr. partitions and .416 Rigby with 400 gr loads. There is nothing that walks, runs, flies, or swims that can't be taken with either of those two.

One rifle would be enough : my Blaser R 93 but then I'd take along a few extra barrels (to choose from .222 Rem to .416 Rem). Nice way to travel light

Sorry about the triple guys.

The first time I hit submit reply I got a message saying Ol' Sarge is not registered, so I tried again. Same thing. So then I logged off and rebooted and tried again. Same thing. Finally gave up. Came back today and all three took.

I dunno?

Oh, God, so much choices!

I could live with 06 and something heavier.

Just to show the Oldtimers knew some things, and for a different opinion:

To me this was very easy, and while I too think that the 30-06 and .375 H&H make a great combo I think that while they are very different I also think that they are to close in game taking ability as to hadicap yourself by picking calibers so close together. Give me a Ruger 10/22 and my .375

I think Jr got it right a .22 rimfire and a 375 H/H is a great combo.
The 375 can and may be used for anything legal to hunt and the 22 is just great for anything very small and like the 375 H/H, ammo. is available worldwide.

<Rifleman7>
.308 and a 300 Remgington Ultra Mag. The .308 can be loaded with 100gr on up to 175gr bullets with would give reasonable results from varmints on up to great results on whitetails. The 300 Ultra Mag can go from there. Plus there is some commonality in caliber.

You go to Africa, you better take your track shoes!

To answer the origenal question, I would have to agree with LE270, since this combo has to cover all my hunting for everything in the WORLD. A Mannlicher Shoenauer 1961 MCA rifle, chambered for 243 Win,with a 3-9x40 Leupold and an FN Mauser 375H&H in a synthetic stock, quality iron sights, and a 1.5-5X20 Luepold in Warne QD mounts, and turn me loose. The fact is, I will not even have to buy the rifles, as I already own both of them!
