Shane's post regarding construction of a new room in his basement got me thinking this would be a good thread in itself. Pictures would be really cool. (I'm technically challenged and don't know how to do the photo thing)

I'm in the building business, so several years ago built a big steel building on my place. Walled off a section 15' x 40' w/ 16' ceiling height to serve as my "egotistical room".

Installed a restroom, heat & AC, a big bar made of field stone and oak, a kitchenette w/ frig, microwave, sink, cabinets, etc. Built in a big gun, ammo and gear closet. Have TV, CD and keep a full stock of beverages on hand.

My decorator (Me) insisted on hanging dead animals all over the walls, suspending geese and ducks like they're flying, fish mounts, tons of hunting and fishing photos, etc.

This has made a really great place to hang out, party, entertain, etc., and I continue to add to the decor. I may die broke, but I'll leave a buch of cool stuff behind.

Steiny,
That sure sounds cool to me. I'd enjoy seeing some photos. Until my sons moved out, I was always hard-pressed to hang anything, anywhere. The boss simply wouldn't have it. Now, I've got my African stuff (not too much) in one of the vacated bedrooms 13'x15' but I've gotten the word they can't stay there much longer. I've been thinkin' about extending the garage or putting up something like you describe. If you send me a photo or two by email, I'd be glad to post them here for you.

I hope this thread takes off! There are so many guys here that have done tons of hunting....I would imagine that the trophy rooms would probably look like a natural history museum.

Lets seem some pictures..!!

During the years as a musician, I have seen several VERY nice trophy rooms(most are private homes so photos are unavaliable [Frown] ) My own house, I have to contend with a small living room and a wife who dosn't want many "dead" animals on the wall. I do have a couple and a number of photos up.
I also would like to see some of the trophy rooms you have!

There isn't a room in my house that doesn't have some sort of skull, hide, skin, or mount in it. [Big Grin]

LIVING ROOM.....leopard pedestal mount, sable pedestal mount, kudu pedestal mount, buffalo skull on hearth, Alaskan moose over the fireplace. I know the moose is a bit out of place but it's a hummer and I shot it under extreme conditions. Also, a lot of photos of various hunts. Oops almost forgot the warthog skull.

FAMILY ROOM......large Alaskan black bear rug on wall, black bear skull on shield on wall, impala shoulder mount on wall, antlers from my first white-tail taken with a bow, ditto for first rifle white-tail, shoulder mount of my largest pronghorn, hunting art plus some old restored hunting photos of my grandfather, my dad, my uncle and me (first thing I'd grab in a fire) plus a lot of souveneirs from trips.

DEN.....waterbuck shoulder mount, large wolf rug (black with lots of silver), large white-tail shoulder mount (double drop tines) plus my best mule deer (28" spread) plus a lot more photos and wildlife art.

I've got a variety of other stuff farmed out to others.....moose and caribou mounts plus brown bear rug at my folks house and a few other Alaskan trophies on loan to some gunshops.

I've got to find some room for my next trip as I'm going to need room for a pedestal mount for male & female gemsbok, someplace for a red hartebeest and at least one more kudu and of course I still want to hunt nyala and bushbuck.

Being a single man, my whole house is going to, very shortly serve as a trophy room. I just bought and am remodeling a 700 square foot cabin and have about 25 Africa mounts, skulls, and rugs either here or arriving next week (don't know where the hell that Eland is going to go in my little place). I also have two North American Bison which are going to be tough to find space for and a couple of Pronghorn. I will try to post photos as soon as the remodel is done.

Regards,

JohnTheGreek

WOW!! Some of y'all have got it going on!!! Got-a-love-it!
I am a part time taxidermist so you can see where I am comming from.
My wife is one of those "understanding" ones. I have mounts in most rooms......no, not our bed room!
When my son left I also took over the bed room for my office, it completly covered with ....well, you name it, I am a taxidermist. My den also is pretty much filled up. It all serves as my show room for my custoomers also. (One good thing is its a "right-off").
I do have plans for a nice 24 X 20 room to be added over my garage. It will have 10 foot walls with semi valted celings. One wall will have windows and the other three will have that precious wall space! At one end I will have two rooms around 10 by 12 each. One for all of my hunting and fishing stuff and the other for the little ladies stuff.
By the way, I told my wife that she can have her house back to do as she wants when my trophy room is complete. Negotiations are sometimes required around my place!!!

BOWHUNR,
Do you have one of the rare Jackalopes with the antelope horns or the imitation one with the deer antlers?

Great Post! I have 2 whitetail shoulder mounts in my shop office. New house has 29 1/2" walleye over the fireplace. A few turkey tail fans as well as my 30" mule deer buck in the center of the living room wall. Really want a bull elk for that spot, but after my 4th year in CO, I again came home without one. Maybe next year? I already have more mounts than my girlfriend likes, but after all it is my house.

Living room...Kudu, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Red hartebeest, Limpopo buchbuck and Impala shoulder mounts and an Impala sheild mount on the walls. Zebra leg candle stands, Wildebeest fly switches set about the room and a Zebra rug on the floor. A large 8 point Whitetail deer shoulder mount over the fireplace and a Caribou skull mount on the wall and full skin on the entertainment center cabinet. A Black bear skull, Rattlesnake, ball bag, various pig, javelina, warthog and hippo tusks and hippo shambok placed about the room, along with antlers, antler art and lamps.

Office...a Cape buffalo skull and tail fly switch, Black bear rug, Whitetail and Pronghorn shoulder mounts, a Mule deer shield mount, a pile of Mule deer and Whitetail antlers, a very old set of rattling horns and horns from my first Elk. I now need to find space for shield mounts of a very good Impala, Springbok, Bushbuck and Blesbok, along with a Blue Wildebeest and Black Wildebeest skulls and tail fly switches and full skins from a Springbok and Blesbok. My desk chair is being recovered in Cape buffalo skin to match a cover on my computer credenza.

John,

We dont see the pigs so often here, but they are extending around so in a couple of years we will have plenty. Mine is from Poland. The Badgers are more common and I trapped 14 and hunted 4 the last two years, all in less then 5 acres area.

Greg,

I'm sorry to say that my Jackalope is the imitation "deer horn" type. I have not been fortunate enough to see a "real one" on any of my trips out west. Those little suckers are pretty wiley!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]
