I've been looking for a trail camera for the deer lease. For price and what you get the Bushnell Trophy cam looks good to me. Do you need a viewer on the camera?

Please post your opines and what you like.

Thanks!

I have one and am not to happy with it as I have it on the lowest motion setting and it still takes pictures of snow flakes. Over nigh it may take 2000 picturs of rain and snow.
But the pictures are pretty good.

All depends on what you want to get - there are a great many variables, from sensor trip time, flash type, still/video, battery life, picture quality to things like waterproofness, cold performance and chance of theft.

Here is perhaps one of the best review sites for all sorts of trailcams - Chasingame. They also have a Chasingame forum section.

I have been very happy with my two Scoutguards I bought.

I have found that Trailcampro.com is a good source for reviews.

I sacrificed quality of pictures for more coverage of acres.

I bought 4 of the Wildgame cameras for $45 each and (8) 2G SD cards. The photo quality isn't great and I have to put new batteries in every week but I am happy with the cheap little cameras.

I have found that the straps and bungee cords are a so-so way to attach the cameras to a tree. I use bailing wire for a rock solid mount that won’t move wile changing batteries and SD cards.

As far as a viewer is concerned...I carry a small camera and view the pictures with the LCD screen on it.

I have several Bushnell cameras and love them. Exception battery life so far. The nighttime pictures aren't always the best but I'm still satisfied.

We have been using Moultries and are not happy with the performance.

On the deal with the clear pictures, we get totally black pictures and that is one of our gripes, but when we get pictures of just scenery, we have figured out in our situation that it is either weeds/grass/limbs blowing across the sensor and activating the camera, or birds flying by.

Even the rocks don't last forever.

Had the same problem...couldn't figure it out until I looked at the pics on the big screen on the home PC...birds flying by...look close and you can see them change places on a dead fall Roll Eyes

I use Moultrie 65`s ,Any camera that uses infrared flashes at night will have black and white pics.I change SD cards once a week. The batteries last 6 months. You get pics of nothing, but unless you have a camera with a fast trigger time, that will happen.I look at the pics on my computer and keep the ones I like,so having extra pics means nothing. If you want to spend$300.00 Plus per camera ,buy Cuddeback. They are the best out there.

I talked to several guys who are gettting rid of their Cuddebacks and are buying Bushnells. They tell me the bushnells work better.

These are guys the sworn up and down that the cuddebacks were the best.

No more Cuddebacks for me. When they work, a good camera, but all have been back one or more times for repair.
Just bought 4 Bushnells and am happy with them.
Must use right setting (low/med./high) per outside temperature.

Between 2003 and 2009 I kept two or three game cams going year round.

First ones were the Leaf River. Took good pics, but like others, seem to always need to go back to the shop for fixin.

Probably the best game cam's I ever used were the old moultrie model DGS-200.

Easy to set up. Put a rechargable 6-volt battery in them, hook them up to a solar panel. Two thousand pix in a month(most at night with flash) and you still have battery.

Seems like most of the newbies all use either "C" or "D" cell batteries. Don't last long.
I've not had the best luck with the lower end units, in regards to ruggedness, battery life, picture quality or speed of response.

I really like the Bushnell trail cameras, they produce pretty good pictures (although I do get a few images with nothing but mesquite limbs blowing in the wind), battery life is great, I've replaced all of my Recon cameras with Bushnell.

(moultrie model DGS-200) Those things eat batteries like no tomorrow. I run 4 cameras. I would get a Bushnell. You can veiw the pics on a small digital camera. Sometimes I take a laptop with me. Othertimes I just wait until I get home to veiw them. I always swap out the cards thou.
