I was shooting a 300gr Hornady SST behind 200g of pyrodex. Although the Oryx dropped on its face, I was unhappy with the bullet. It did its job but I recovered it and it weighted 153gr. So, with an up coming elk hunt, I've decided to switch to the Barnes TMZ in 290gr. I think that I'll get better results. Anyway, this was a great way to start the fall!!!......wapiti7

Wapiti7, thatt's a nice bull, CONGRATULATIONS!

I worked for American Airlines back in the 60s when the seed stock for the Gemsbok (GIANT ORYX). I handled all the exotic seed stock through my Airfreight warehouse. These, along with two kinds of IBEX were trapped in their home land and shipped to El Paso on American airlines. New Mexico game people came down to pick them up as they came in, over a two, or three month period. The first places they were released was White Sands Missle Range, for the Gemsbok, and the florida Mountains for the IBEX. The gemsbok flurished, and quickly over flowed the WSMR, onto ranches surrounding it.

This was a very successful transplant, and place game in areas where muledeer couldn't live, for lack of water. The Gemsbok is a fine animal, and a worthy trophy! Again Congratulations! beer

Hey Bob. Well, this hunt was actually an off range depredation hunt. The hunts are 30 days and you apply for which month you want to hunt. As I said before, the rains were terribly heavy and still are. I sunk my pickup the first day and didn't even hunt. The problem with the rain is that the animals come off range to water. Well, there is really no reason this summer to venture off. But I found this bull in an isolated bowl, he was by himself feeding and when I first saw him, he was only about 75 yds from the base fence. So this led to that and I closed 564yds to 116yds and I let him have it!!!
So what do you do in Durango?......wapiti7

In the late 70's I worked at GE Supply in Farmington, then moved to DGO & worked @ Nichol's Electric for 20+years. Trying to retire now but it's a little hard with gas at $3 a gallon.

What's your bull's horn length? 35?

Bob, I'm an electritian for the city of farmington. I also do residential work on the side. Anyway, he's 33 1/2! Not bad for an off range depredation hunt with a terrible success rate........wapiti7

Bob, I'm planning on going w/ a friend of mine above durango for a cow hunt. I can't remember the exact place, but you turn left when you're across from the fairgrounds and go up the mountain. Are you familiar w/ that area?..............wapiti7
