I am looking at drawing a deer tag in area 61. Any insight on how this area is. Also what season is best. My buddie is going to pick up a cow tag so he can tag along

I hunted unit 61 in 2004 for Bull Elk in the early rifle season. I only saw 2 Mule Deer Bucks while Elk hunting, one was a dandy. I've heard that the later the better for big bucks in that area but that was just from a couple of outfitters working it. They claimed to have taken a few real bigguns the year before.

I got the best Bull of my life ( so far!), he was 355 B&C. It was a great hunt as far as I was concerned even before the Bull. I hunted real hard and had previously scouted pretty well and had my hunt narrowed down to just one big canyon. I saw Elk, Deer, Bear, Coyotes, Golden Eagles, Grouse, Porcupines and all kinds of wildlife. Hunted solo until I killed the Bull then I called my brother to come help me pack him out ( 7 trips on packframes ). I'll try to attach some pictures of the Bull I got.

Snell, That is a real nice bull. I was thinking of that unit, as I doubt I will ever draw a unit 2 or 201 tag.

Tracker I replied to your PM, then I read the last response on the forum , the hunt was the early rifle hunt. I live in Colorado but about 5 hours from that area.
Let me know if there is any other questions I can help you with.
