I'm gonna start working up some loads for my RUM and would like to get some opinions on a good big game (probably Moose) bullet. I'll probably start with the 275 grain Swift A Frame. Any ideas?

MOA,
I've just started reloading the 275 Swifts. So far they seem to group fine in my rifle. I am loading for the Win. Mag, so velocities will probably be 150 to 200 fps less. I am certain that you will not have a problem. Just might add I would hate to be the moose you see!
best,
bhtr

I'd also consider 225 and 250 barnes X, 250 nosler partition, 230 failsafe and the 225 northfork. I think any of these would work for any game up here in the ultramag.
The 225 nosler might fit the list just as well.
These would all make good moose and brown bear loads. They would all do well on lighter game also.
The 338 is a very popular caliber up here ( I've had two 338's). Of these bullets the ones I here about most from poeple I have talked to are the 225 barnes X the 230 failsafe and the 250 nosler.

I like the 210XLC's in mine,a friend dotes on the 225XLC.

He slammed a Kodiak Brownie with his this Spring, breaking both shoulders and it then exited. Just the one shot, was required.

Moose won't stand a chance............

The Kodiak Bullet may be a good choice. This is a bonded bullet without a partition. I've been thinking of trying them but just haven't gotton to it yet. Don't know where you are but they are for sale in most gun shops in Anchorage.

If I were you I would certainly try the 225 gr. North Fork. It is awesome in my .340. The rear portion is solid with a bonded lead front that peals back, much like the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw. Good shooting.

Most .338 bullets are pretty tough, and Swift A-frames should be there near the top. It is a controlled expansion bullet that should retain greater weight than the outstanding NOS Partition. Somewhere I have a list of bullets and their predicted weight retention after expansion, and I believe Swift A-frame gets somewhere near 90%. If I find the article with the list of bullets, I will let you know the details.

The trajectory of the 275-grain Swift A-Frame and the 300-grain Woodleigh will not be as flat as the ones of lightweight bullets, but they should provide a greater punch at moose and bear ranges. I have only been using 230-grain FS and 250-grain NOS bullets for my .338 WM, and so far I have only recovered one from moose. It seems that every bullet I use zips right through. I have shot moose through the shoulders 200 yards out, and broken both shoulder bones with one 230-grain FS. That bullet exited, leaving behind a very dead moose. I imagine that a heavier than 250-grain bullet out of your RUM would be devastating on moose and bear.
