Calgary Guy gee I just about give up on someone answering this post Not sure of the date yet , but know it will be after the 9th of November. I will be hunting moose southeast of Calgary with Cole Nelson, plus I am spending some time with a friend that lives south of New Norway. With $4.79/9 diesel just thought some body between Ohio and Montana might be going the same way and could help with fuel cost. I normally go from Havar Montana to Medicine Hat but figue this year I will go farther west then into Canada, I know your fuel isn't a bargain eather . Thanks for the come back Bill

The one thing that I have found useful is getting a card lock card for fuel.

I have one that I can use at all UFA cardlock's in AB and Cheveron cardlocks in BC and most of the US. I was saving a bit by using the cardlock. Atleast I did over the Xmas travel.

Longview is south of Cowtown. That's bald-ass prairie. I suspect that's the address of the guide's residence, but what do I know? Maybe there's hundreds of moose in the coulees down there... Confused

Easy now guys..

Longview is SouthWest of Calgary.
Its at or in the foothills.
Who knows where exactly you will be hunting. There are some HUGE moose down that way.
WMU 402 is a great place for moose, but the draw is almost imposible.
Do you know the EXACT WMU you will be hunting?

Thanks
Calgary Guy

Blue Ridge Outfitters is the name of the company. And it is in the foot hills and on private ground ranches. It has been the last couple of years that S.C.I. made the area as a sicrus moose area.

Ok, now I found his web site.

If you can, try and get a Mule tag as well.
There are some Crankers to be found.

I know exactly where these guys hunt. You will not see a ton of moose, but they are there!!
Hunt hard and you should come home with a good one.
Start getting in shape. Our "Foothills" can be a bit on the steep side.
What are you bringing for gear?

Bill, It shouldnt be cold.
Perhaps just below frezing.
I wouldnt expect to much for snow.
I would try and show up a day early, so if the weather is bad, you have the option of doing some shopping

This is what I would take
insulated pants
pair of insulated hikeing boots, I dont think you will need the big pack boots, as I dont use them till the snow gets deep.
Underarmour top
Sitka Gear Long Johns
Full length Long Johns
heavy shirt
Zip up fleece top
Windproof shell
Baclava (Full face mask/hat)
Touque
layered gloves
Heavy mitts

What are you bringing for a gun?
Do you ride now? If not I would highly suggest you spend some time on a horse just before you get here. If not... OUCH!!!!

Good luck, and please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. I would be more than glad to help.

Jamie

Jamie I am using a C.Z.550 in 375 H and H. I used my Interarm/Whitmore 375 on my last moose hunt north of Edmonton I hunted with Don Ayers up in the swan hills. Call me crazy but right now those three leaf express sights are alot of fun to shot and I am planning on a iron sight hunt. I have been practicing five shoots every day shooting a three hundred grain bullet. As far as horses go the first one I rode was when I was in the second grade he grabed my pants leg and threw me off. The second one slipped on a rock shale and fell rolling on top of me. The third one I rode in Mexico with a spanish saddle and I walk like well you know where I was going with that ! Thanks for your info on clothing, in the past a pair of Carhart bibs non insulated is my hunting clothes. Bill
