Brown bear as in Kodiak? Your going after Kodiak with a 300 WM?

If you can afford a Kodiak hunt then you can certianly afford a more suitable rifle.

Thats my .02c. But if I had to do it, I'd do it with the 200 gn North Forks.

Whichever shoots the best in your rifle.
How do you choose from that list. Each and every one will do the job. In my humble opinion.

I remember reading an article by Roy Weatherby many years ago when he used his (then fairly new) 300 weatherby for Kodiak bear. I'll bet he was using the new bullets from Joyce Hornady..... interlocks!!!

The hunt was successful as the objective was to sell weatherby rifles.

Any of the bullets you mentioned are a clear step up from the ones used then.

I'll say it again, the 300 Winchester for Browm Bear is at best marginal. There is some REALLY good input here trying to suggest a larger caliber rifle for good reason. A rifle such as a 375 H&H could just save you life. It is just cheap insurance.

Granted, there are bigger rifles, but there is nothing wrong with using a winny for the big bears.

Alot of the kodiaks and coastal BB taken with the 30 calibers. I know I would do it with my wifes 30-06 with the 180gr failsafes I load up for it.

Interesting observation. I find it interesting how as time marches on, the animals we hunt are somehow becoming more and more difficult to kill. Next, people will be saying that 7x57, .257 roberts and .270 are too small for deer.
Granted, if I were hunting a brownie, I would take my Rigby just for the hell of it. However, I would have zero reservations about using a .300 WM

The .300 WM, while perhaps not "optimum" in the eyes of certain experts, will nonetheless do the job with your 180 grain TSX load as long as you place the bullet where it belongs. Heck, I'd wager to say that more of these big bruins have fallen to the old 30-06 than any other caliber out there.

Yes, they are tough; yes, they can be fiercesome; and yes, a mistake against one of these giants can be disastrous. But one thing they are not, and that's bulletproof.

Take the 300 WM and shoot the A-Frames. Thats what I am taking for my brown bear hunt.Mine are the factory Remingtons flying 2825 fps launching a 200 grain bullet is so close to a 338WM with a 225 grain that the bear wont know the difference guaranteed. The guys down south think these thaings cant be killed, your 300 WM is fine. Better you shoot something that you shoot well that jump into a new gun that you are not familiar with a month before the hunt.And remember no matter what gun you are shooting after the first shot, keep shooting, theres no meat to mess up and the those little holes in the hide can be fixed if need be.

Just helped my cousin sight in his new model 70 s/s classic 300 Win. Mag. with 200 grain Swift A-Frame bullets. An excellent setup for him to take a nice brown bear.

You could shoot a hundred big bears and still not be able to tell a difference between how fast all three bullets you mentioned killed. You would still have a hundred dead big bears though.

Last time I went I used the 30-06 with the 200 grain Partition. Did the job well. One shot in the boiler room.
