What is your opinion of the quality of a Remington 700 AWR (alaska wilderness rifle) in 375 H and H? At the recommendation of a local hunter, I recently bought one and havent shot it enough yet but wonder how it compares with other "out of the box" rifles of this caliber. It has a synthetic stock and blackened stainless barrel which are good, but what I was wondering about is the comparison of accuracy with other rifles if you use factory ammo. What is your opinion of the Workmanship of the Remington Custom Shop? So far I have shot federal nosler P375 300 grain at targets, crows and one carp in my pond. What would you do to improve the accuracy if you had it - trigger, bolt trueing or ? Going brown bear hunting in about 3 weeks so probably wont have time to do anything to the rifle before this hunt but assuming the bear doesnt bend up the rifle too bad, I plan to go to Africa next June and would have time to send it to someone to improve - if its worth while.

Oh, oh, am I hearing a little buyers remorse? Just kidding ya I compliment you on choosing a great caliber. It'll really grow on you over time to where you'll wonder why it took you so long to discover such a fun caliber!
In .375HH I've only shot M70's and M77's but I do own my fair share of M700's in other calibers. .375HH is known to shoot well and the M700 action has a well deserved reputation for enhancing accuracy, so you're doing pretty good so far.
Probably the cheapest and fastest way to improve accuracy is to focus on cleaning up and tuning the trigger. However, since you're going off to pick a fight with Brownie it's more important right now to make dead darn certain that rifle feeds and extracts rounds flawlessly. If you're not confident about that then do something about it now.

Puddle,
I guess I have to admit a little nervousness about having made a choice based only on one recommendation. Actually I think the rifle is as accurate as I can hold it anyway. The army said I was an "expert" rifleman but that was in '68. I consider myself only average. Nevertheless I always like my equipment to be better than I am. At 100 yds from a bench I shoot about 1.5 inch groups with the rifle laying on my coat - not a good rest. Before I mounted a Zeiss scope on it I shot with no sights at some stumps in my pond at about 75 yds and felt good about the feel of the rifle. You are right about the fun of this caliber. I will never be without one. My main problem with it is that the bolt handle whacks me on the knuckle if I dont keep the trigger hand well back and then I dont feel like I have my trigger finger on the trigger in such a way as to pull straight back. Your suggestion about a trigger job is something I will definately look into. I would like to lighten it up so I dont roll the rifle to the right so much. I dont know about the feed yet since I only have shot slowly. It hasn't hung up yet but I will try some fast shooting this weekend. That does sound rather critical when you think about it.

Palmer: I've had a couple of rifles from the Rem Custom Shop. They have both fed great and were extremely accurate. My 416 Rem will shoot into one ragged hole as long as I can stand the recoil.
