Yes sir, I've dealt with that for years, demand a 30 inch buck, then shoot the first 24 incher they see, then the pissin and moaning starts.. When a real monster buck gets kill by a car, the L.E. officers usually take it cape it and have it mounted and it ends up in their office entrance..at least in Texas DPS.. Well, some of that has changed, now good bucks, White tail or Muley, end up at the TP&W display that goes to various shows around the state as an educational tool to help the public understand the work TP&W does. Even the rocks don't last forever.

Isn't that the truth about people saying they won't take anything but big and blast the first decent buck they see.

Most people don't have a clue as to what a true 200" deer looks like. They read magazines and see deer with over inflated scores or listen to hunt advertisements where the number 200" is tossed around like it's a common thing and they show up with unrealistic expectations and no idea what they're really after. I've seen this for years and there is literally nothing more frustrating than seeing these articles and listening to borderline fraudulent to grossly fraudulent advertising. This is why a lot of guys are happy until a tape comes out

A lot of these animals (road kill, predator killed, winter kill, etc.) end up as fodder in Game and Fish auction fundraisers here in New Mexico. This could be someone's chance to get a 200 incher! _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

It sold at an auction a week or so ago in NM and I think it brought $3000

I had heard the same thing Drummond, but didn't have a source other than rumor, so didn't post it. I was told a semi-local taxidermist bought. Couple it with a great winter cape and he'll have a wonderful display. _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

This is so true. Most guys really don't comprehend how truly big a 200" buck is. They're HUGE. Until you've put your own hands on one of these bucks and know what the score is, it's hard to realize what it takes to get to 200". And, there are not many places that produce this caliber of buck very often, regardless of what people will have you believe. A 200" buck, just like a 400" bull, is an incredibly rare animal, one that most hunters will never see in the field during their lifetime. A 180" buck, as well as a 340" bull (note I didn't say 350", I said 340") is a damned good animal in nearly every unit in any state.

Agreed. A buddy of mine shot one last fall here in southern NM that scored in the mid-190s prior to the drying period. I fondled it a couple weeks ago and it's truly impressive. I'd love to just see bucks of that caliber! _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

I think what takes place in ones mind that wants a trophy buck is when those deer turn and go away from you they look huge, either that or the antlers shrink as you approach them! Ive been guilty of that in years past. Ray Atkinson Atkinson Hunting Adventures 10 Ward Lane, Filer, Idaho, 83328 208-731-4120 rayatkinsonhunting@gmail.com

Ground shrink is hell. My best Muley went 170 green score, 163 & 3/8ths. dry. I will never have the chance at anything better, but to me any Muley is better than the best White tail. Muley's are simply special. Even the rocks don't last forever.
