Looking for some lightweight wool.

I'm looking for some lightweight wool pants. Something to layer with while sitting on a treestand in Alabama in January. I normally wear thermals and cotton pants going to my stand and then add 150 gram thinsulate bibs over that when I get to the stand. Its worked pretty well but I'd like to replace the cotton with wool. Any suggestions on brand and where I could find some.

Filson Whipcord wool pants are hard to beat. If you are using cotton thermals you might acheive the same results by going to Filson's Wool Long Underwear. You might also look at browning's new Gator Fleece pants. I think they are the next piece of hunting clothing I'm going to buy, they have a smooth, no Burr-sticking face and fleece interior - pretty neat.....DJ

Mark,
I wear Filson 17 oz wool Whipcord pants. They are kinda pricey but they are very comfortable. I wear them on every cool weather hunt I do. For some even thinner wool pants go to an Army surplus store and try to find some Marine Corps wool pants. My brother used them I think he said they are the officers pants not sure. They are green.

I thought all you needed in Alabama was a Speedo, flip flops, and bug dope

Another vote for Filson whipcords for light wool. The tight weave makes them pretty good in the brush. Get a couple sets of different weight synthetic long johns and you should be good unless it really gets cold.

I wish! Last week it didn't get above freezing for 2 1/2 days. With a wind chill in the teens Then add in our high humidity and it was pretty darn cold. We've had a morning frost now for about 10 days in a row.

We call that early bow season<lol>. Actually I love hunting in cold weather. Was out Christmas Eve morning with my muzzleloader at 3 below. Clear ski and the trees sparkling. It was beautiful.

Mark, for wool, I also use Filson but I have a rather large selection of the Browning Gore-Tex/Hydro Flece, for most conditions I use the uninsulated pants and bibs but for still hunting I have never regretted the insulated hydro-flece. Priced around 150 to 200.
