No, sorry. That quote was one of my dad's favorites. A good caution to stay informed. Helps keep him with me a bit.

My boys are named James Corbett and John Hunter. But they are not necessarily my favorite hunting authors, it's just that when my wife and I were looking for names I jokingly suggested them and she liked them.

I really enjoy Gene Hill, and Ruark. Hill is down-to-earth and Ruark's a little more novelish. Hemingway was the master wordsmith IMO but not a hunting author per se.

Hunter's stuff is interesting. Corbett's is both interesting and downright exciting.

As far as a single book, Corbett's Maneaters of Kumaon gets my vote (this week ).

Jack O'Connor's Big Game Hunts.

hey Skibum: are you a member of VHA by chance? I used that line in a presentation I gave at the Jamboree in 2003 ("In the land of the blind, a one-eyed man is king" - Victor Hugo)

The Outdoor Life Deer Hunter's Encyclopedia is pretty hard to find these days but is definitely my favorite hunting book by far. It's written by several different authors all of whom were writers for Outdoor Life. It's literally an encyclopedia because it's about the size of my dictionary. Tons of great pictures and information on just about any deer hunting related topic. I wouldn't part with mine for anything.
