Fred BHunting Magazines
Painful is all I can Say. I just received my latest copy of petersens Hunting. 106 pages out of 137 have advertising on them. And that is not including any advertisements in an actual article. I wish there was a magazine out there that just had stories. I don't mind them saying what gun or bullet or etc... that they are using. But they don't have to go into every single little detail about it. If I want to find out more about a certain item I would look it up myself. Why can't they just have a specific section like they used to about 15 years ago.Hanloading, optics, Rifles. I know they need a certain amount of advertising which is fine but when over 3/4 of it is advertising that gets a little much. I would gladly pay double or even triple to get a good story, rather than paid endorsements throughout a story.

<sure-shot>For hunting storys and tales I like the Trophy Hunter and the Boone&Crockett Awards books. Sometimes the B&C Fair Chase magazine puts out a good hunting story like on the new world record grizzly in the most recent issue. sure-shot

<WyomingSwede>My favorites are ....Fur-Fish-Game, Handloader, and Rifleshooter. Try one of them...they are not as commercial as PH. regards swede

HunterJimGonzolas,
Have you tried Safari, Safari Club's glossy hunting magazine? It has ads and columnists too, but it isn't trying to be a for-profit magazine.
You have to be an SCI member to get it, so that adds cost. If you want help getting hooked up, drop me an email...jim

CanuckI like Bugle, Big Game Adventures, and Big Buck Magazine. I also enjoy the GSC/Ovis publication and FNAWS's Wild Sheep.
I really can't take How To articles anymore. Give me stories of actual hunts, or me "Me and Joe" type stories any day.
