rlineb,

Welcome to the forum.

Generraly, Remington 700s have good accuracy, and I see no reason for this one not to be accurate.

You have to bear in mind that each rifle is a law unto itself when it comes to favorite loads. You might like to have a look at our Reloading pages, we do have quite a number of loads for the 7mm STW.

I looked at that gun real hard and decided upon the S.S Model 70 Win. instead. Only reason was because of the Winchesters full 26" barrel. In my opinion, why buy an STW and handicap it with a shorter barrel. It really doesn't need a brake anyway, in my opinion. However, I'm sure it is a fine rifle. Good luck.

Ask yourself: Why do I want a muzzle brake? If you have a good answer, fine.

I have had a Win Mod 70 26" heavy barrel with a rather heavy HS precision stock and have found the felt recoil to be fairly mild. The muzzel blast can still be spectacular, even without a "brake". I get a lot worse kick out of any number of "wimpier" military rifles. The 7 STW seems to be a good, accurate round. I don't load mine to max in the interests of barrel wear.

Good shoot'n...TF

I recently bought this exact gun chambered in .300 Win Mag. Early handload trials indicate the gun is a keeper, shooting under 3/4" w/ full-house 200 Gr Sierra BTSP. Interestingly, it thoroughly trounces the Win M70 w/ 26" barrel .300 Win Mag in terms of velocity that I just traded in for it, so differenes in barrel and whatnot can affect velocity more than the 1/2" of additional barrel length (25.5" on Rem).

The gun seems well put together in terms of fit and finish. The trigger is a little heavier than I like, but is crisp and will be adjusted by my gunsmith shortly. I cannot comment on the 7mm STW, but as for the gun, I'm sure you'll be happy.

Regards,

Lou

Lou270,
2" of that 25.5" barrel is the muzzle brake. That being said...it is actually a 23.5" barrel. A difference of 2.5", not 1/2".
