Can someone enlighten me about the purpose of such regulation? I have heard it is related to preventing the spread of CWD. I am not sure I understand how CWD is going to go from a cooler to another living deer/elk etc. I understand the protein can live on in gut piles, blood etc but the likelihood of transmission from transportation and later processing seems awfully remote. Mark, I am not. It is just a question based on the regs. What difference would it make regarding the logic behind the regulation? The issue would seem to be likelihood of transmission assuming an infected animal. I have not seen a reg that says "only applies" to animals from these states. Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? I'm not sure where you are going to/from but my understanding is some of the diseases are nervous system based (brain/spinal cord) so you bring back a carcass, cut off the meat throw it over the bank, now you have introduced the disease into the ecosystem

I did some more research and apparently the proteins that carry the disease can remain in the soil (which could be contaminated as you describe or from rinsing out blood into the soil) for years. There's your answers. THey figure if all you take home is meat, you'll either eat it, or throw it to the dogs and it'll be consumed. Bones, heads, spine and such most likely would be tossed out as Tim said. I believe CO has a reg on taking it out of state. I haven't read the regs in 5 yrs so don't know what's up now. I need to get a copy and read 'em. Good question to be asked though. George "Gun Control is NOT about Guns' "It's about Control!!" Join the NRA today!" LM: NRA, DAV, George L. Dwight
