It was a tough season in Georgia (dry as a popcorn fart), but I wanted to post a couple of pics of my two bucks. Both were taken with my Jarrett 280 Ackley, with a 140 grain Nosler Accubond. I am still not convinced that this bullet is what I want, but I have always loved Nosler products. Every recovered Accubond, save one, has had a ton of lead wiped off, which concerns me since it is a bonded bullet. But....they are dead arn't they? They seem to group quite well too. Hope everyone has the greatest Christmas ever!

Hank,

Congratulations! Were I in your shoes, I would be walking in the clouds! Very nice bucks, and this was a stinker of a year here in GA. I have seen nothing close to either of your bucks. You are either quite a woodsman or have quite a nice property to go to hunt, or both!
Back to back days is impressive as well!

Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue.

What I have learned on AR, since 2001:
1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken.
2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps.
3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges.
4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down.
5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine.
6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle.
7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions.
8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA.
9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not.
10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact.
11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores.
12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence.
13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

Both were 140 class bucks. The first one I took was an "urban" buck...taken down the street from my house. Got a small patch of woods that runs along a creek and I have my own little white tail nirvana there...got a nice Imperial Whitetail Extreme foodplot there that draws in the bucks extremely well. The genetics are very good in this part of the state and the chance for a whopper is better than average there. FYI: I saw him heading to my stand but could not shoot because I was facing the houses in our subdivision! All my stands face the creek (safe direction). I got on in my stand, hung my drag rag of Code Blue, grunted, and out he came @ last light. He was #13 I saw that afternoon. An amazing place to be in such an urban environment. Buck #2 was taken checking a scrape...the 2nd rut was on full speed ahead at the time.

Hank, those are nice bucks! I have scored on quite a few here in Ga in those 'urban islands' you mention.

You mentioned that it was really dry in your initial post, that sure hasn't been the case in most of Georgia this year. In fact we had more measured rain days in the 7 county metro area than we have for many years. 112 in my county!

I'm glad someone had some dry ground under their feet, but my wife has been kicking my ass for muddy boots in the garage all the time--I tell here 'at least I didn't wear them into the house'.

Congratulations and Merry Christmas!

Hey Fish,

I used to live above you in Summerville until I was transfered South. Chattooga County bucks were nowhere near the size of what we encounter down here! We had good weather (adequate rainfall) throughout the year until it came time to establish our fall plots....that's what I was trying to convey. I had to replant my Extreme twice because we only got .67" of rain in October...thats all!
Speaking of Urban bucks, I have a friend that hunts off I-285 adjacent to the Atlanta Airport. Jets screaming overhead and the bucks could care less. Naturally, the noise discipline of the hunter can be cranked back a notch. It blew my mind when he showed me pics of two really nice 10's. If whitetails arn't adaptable I'm a Chinese rocket pilot!

Merry Christmas to everyone.

Nice bucks, congratulations.

Hey Dave P,

Yeah, my scale weighs in 5# increments. Sendero, that Jarrett 280 AI is on its third barrel...it has killed a ton of deer....it just does not miss. I credit the rifle...not me for that.

Have a nice one!
