I have the columbia wool camo-a little heavy but quite warm in any weather ,wet or dry.I wear that with good thermals and have never been cold, even in snow storms. Its very quiet also.
Yes, those Swedish military pants are pretty tough, warm and in general very serviceable for cold weather activities. I got two pairs, one is a bit short in the inseam. I think they only allow you to choose the waist size, but maybe if you called them up... - mike

Jeff, speedo's and flipflops and a bow??? lol. The mere thought of it is very disturbing.
Mark, the Cabela's winter sale catalog just arrived and they have a good looking pair of wool pants, Swedish military, new never worn for $20. Maybe the same already mentioned. If they have a size that is adjustable for oversize Christmas fat, I might order a pair myself.

For the cheapskates among us the Sportsmans Guide has had some great military surplus wool pants in limited sizes. I have several pair and find them great to hunt in, and some of the different "brands" they have sold in the past are classy enough that one could probably wear them to hunt or work!
Muckers are anything you wear while "mucking out a horse stall" or in a hunting context it would mean stuff you wear in nasty, muddy, pants ripping conditions where you might not want to wear your nice Filson stuff... .....DJ

I think that we ought to send a copy of this thread to Filson and see if we can get them to come back out with the Whipcord pants in Style 187, instead of now just making style 180. The Style 187 is the Field pants style with the two snap-shut pockets below the front slash pockets. I greatly prefer to have seal shut pockets out in the field, because if anyone can get upside down in a tree or something else to make everything fall out of your pockets it would be me.
If Cabela's has the Swedish Melton Wool pants in new condition and in your size, everyone should have at least 1 Pair for $20. Yes the Filson's are lighter and better but for $20 the Sweede's are a little warmer and make great muckers. I actually somewhat prefer the ankle straps even though they are a pain to get on. The straps keep wind from blowing up your legs and can save you from gaiters in lighter snows. But for $20 they are a steal and everyone should have a pair for backup..........DJ
