I have not fished with buena vista but have fished with the van wormer resorts in the sea of cortez. For that I would recommend going july- sept when the water warms up tuna roll in.

i caught a striped Marlin. had fun fishing, but the taxi part of it was terrible.

twilli,
Are you refering to the Buena Vista Hotel in Buena Vista and not Cabo? If it's Buena Vista I have fished around there many times and stopped at the Buena Vista Hotel several times to eat but never stayed there. I have never heard of anything bad about the place.

As someone else said it's better fishing in the summer but it gets stormy and rainy at times.

I have always stayed at Martin Verdugo's trailer park in Los Barriles and fished from my own boat.

Spa Buena Vista is a nice place. I've fished all of the East Cape Resorts and have never had a bad trip. My favorite though is Rancho Leonero.

May is the very beginning of the sport fishing season. You should have shots at striped marlin, dorado and maybe roosterfish. Of course snapper and grouper should also be available.

100% don't use Gray's still waiting 5 years later, they can't find any records

I don't know about a taxidermist but I think that they are trying to not kill any bill fish. At least that is what they say.

I think it is worth bringing back dorado, tuna or wahoo. Most all taxidermists will do a reproduction on fish. While I haven't used them yet, Advanced taxidermy's work appears outstanding. http://www.advancedtaxidermy.com/fish.php I wouldn't worry that they are in Canada as whoever you use will be shipping the mount.

Bwana,
That is the big problem with marlin, its delicious but they don't want us to kill it.

In the 1990s we used to make a couple of trips a summer to Los Barriles fishing for marlin or what ever. We started taking a large pressure cooker and 4 cases of jars "just in case" one of the marlin died which is sort of common as they fight so hard. Well any way my wife had a stripper on for several minutes and it made a big run straight down and then just died. We were up to late that night canning fish and I can say that it was the best canned fish that I have ever had.

It's also excellent cooked on a grill. At that time lots of restaurants in that area had marlin on the menu. Don't know about now how ever.

I suggest that before you go out check the charter boats coming in to see if they are flying flags. They fly a flag for each fish caught. If no flags flying then you will probably just be wasting your time and money.

While I haven't been there in a number of years, Spa Buena Vista is a wonderful place that I've enjoyed four or five times. The fishing can be excellent in summer and fall, but like has been said elsewhere, weather can interfere if you hit a chubasco.

I've had excellent fishing for dorado and yellowfin tuna out of SBV, so-so for billfish but the area is known for quality billfish.
