Doesn't it seem kind of strange that the people in New York, etc that think it's wonderful for Wyoming and Idaho to have abundant wolves can't tolerate a coyote in Central Park that probably wasn't doing a thing but catching rats and eating up the trash left on the ground? Then they killed the damn thing by stressing it to death or who knows what killed it. They also said in the article that it was a year old and weighed 35 pounds- biggest yearling coyote I've ever seen, he'd weighed 60 pounds when grown if this was the case. Just thought it was interesting how the antis can't tolerate a single wild animal, while the hunters and cattlemen are supposed to love hearing the howls of wolves in the west. Aren't coyotes native to Central Park? Here in Mo. I think they should restore them to their former range in NYC.

I could not BELIEVE that story was made a Fox breaking "News Alert", with live video from a helicopter following the chase!!!! The news acted like it was a savage killer lion loose from the zoo...Out here in Idaho, the wolf/rancher issue is a hot topic, one that I am not for or against because I understand both sides. But I am still puzzled about how they reacted about that story...

Actualy in upstate NY there are many that reach 60 pounds and more , i guess its the wolf in them . a study taken a few years back showed red wolf dna in coyotes captured . the pure coyote hear i would say reaches 35-40 as an adult.

I guess I didn't realize that the NY city coyote ended up dead. I can bring them 100 more if they are interested? I can't believe the resources they wasted chasing ONE LOUSY COYOTE!!

We had a grizzly bear in the town of Dubois a few years ago, and it didn't even make the paper there.

I can't believe the mainstream media pap dispensers made this a headline story for several nights on teeeveee!!

They shoulda just got a N.Y.C. gangbanger to come out there into Central Park with his AK47 and capped ol' Hal with 20 or 25 rounds! End of problem. gunsmile

In my home in upstate NY the local newspaper the Independent has refused to put any more Bear and birdfeeder pictures in print. This is because it has become so common. We are about 100 miles north of NYC, hard on the Mass border. We have plenty (too many) coyotes willing to migrate down to the Island of madness anytime the weekenders want to take one of the cute cuddly little rascals home.

That was my point exactly, all these fools in helicopters, police cars chasing a coyote that in reality was doing them a favor by clearing out some rodents. A coyote is wild enough that one of that age will certainly die from stress, if not starvation. When I was young, we had hounds and hunted them constantly, I knew a couple of people who even tried to raise a couple of tiny pups, they would eat nothing and eventually starved themselves to death. If they wanted to get rid of him, they did it in the worst way, locking him in a cage and killing him by stress. But I forget these people are too humane to shoot anything. That would not be PC.

The capture story [on NYC TV] of the coyote really showed how bizarre those people are when it comes to wildlife !!.....The coyotes of the NE are big and a 70 pounder is not unusual !!.....Coyotes are related to the red wolf so that red wolf DNA would not be a surprise. ...Did you ever hear Stan Freeberg's version of 'Little Red Riding Hood" ? She pulled out her .45 and shot the wolf dead ! The moral of the story ? It's not so easy to fool little girls today !

On occasion, they get a lot bigger than that. I would say the average adult here in northern NH is around 55-60lbs. I have personally seen them over 100 (not many, but I have seen them and shot one). If you think about it, it's not that amazing. They are not native to this area, but we killed the last of the wolves and mountain lions around here more than a century ago. They are only moving into an available niche. When they can't get to the mice for the snow and frozen ground, they go after the deer and moose. They have to have some size to do that, and the bigger they are, the better they eat, the healthier they stay, and the more likely to breed successfully. BTW, the big kitties are back, too.
As to the New Yorkers, why do they call it tourist season if we're not allowed to shoot them?

I know it's April 1, but I'd have to see a 100 pound coyote or 80. I am not in the northeast but we ran them with hounds and killed 100-150 a year for 20 years or more. I personally weighed the two largest ones which were 55 and 60 pounds, out of a couple thousand. Out of a yearly average of 120, three or four would bust 40 pounds, so I'm a little sceptical, find a 100 pound dog and see how big it is, I think double the size of a coyote.

Here in Oregon, It is all the city people in Portland that vote all the bans on thinning out the numbers of cougars we have in this state....

As long as it doesn't effect their little world....but this is typical 'liberal' logic of these people....

Always passing laws, that don't apply to them... and then making the people it does apply pay for it.... when the law has to apply to them, then they are either making some excuse why they are above it all... or are screaming bloody murder about the 'stupidity' of the law.....liberal and self centered pretty much go hand in hand....

These liberals who are female are always the most ardent anti gun people around.... until they get attacked or raped....then they are packing more lead to shoot than Bonnie and Clyde....Like Anti Gun Diane Feinstein... she is anti gun, yet has one of the two or three Conceal/Carry Weapons in the city of San Francisco...... when asked about it, she says it is for self defense..... then when pointed out that ordinary citizens should be able to have the same rights, her response is " no they shouldn't, because I am more important.... they have the police to protect them"........

IN Southern California, the coyotes that are examined when found dead, or shot by authorities ... 80% of their diet is found to be domestic pets..... See Even God has a sense of humor.... these "Save the Planet" yuppie house wives who are against shooting coyotes... are having their pet poodle and kitty cats eaten... poetic justice in my book.....

Don't ya just love city people!
