HUNTING WITH 10.75X68 MAUSER. I have original M98, Mauser Obendorf in Calibre 10.75 X 68mm. Barrel length 24 inches. I have read John Taylors account of it being not considered a very successful stopper of Pachyderms in the old day due to poor bullet construction. Would anyone be able to share any experiences of hunting with this caliber using modern reloads? Any information on this caliber is welcome! As this is considered an obsolete caliber, I have had no option but to hand load ammo. Would you be able to provide a starting load for Hodgdon Varget (Similar to ADI AR2208) or H4350. I have used the 10.75 x 68 a little...Handloaded with a 350 gr. Barnes X at 2375 FPS it will stop a train in its tracks....A 400 gr. Woodleigh at 2200 plus is a sho nuff Cape Buffalo gun...If the old gun is in good shape I will buy it from you at a fair price....The problem is that damn Bertram brass that last about 2 firings if your lucky....

Dear Ray, Happy to note that this old rifle can stop buff & the like.It is very reassuring as I find it a light rifle to carry on long walks in thick jungles. It kicks hard! I know of a lady who owns one in very good nick. Will check and let you know. There are many other gems around. 9.5MS is common here. Cannot think of parting with mine as I do not have any other large calibre. RGDS Rhunu
