| you should PM ANN @ Aspen Hill Adventures here on AR. She has lots of hunts in several places. I know of an outfitter in Maine who has openings this fall as I just received an email from him. In Idaho, you can get 2 bears, if I recall.

| Based on my limited reading, Idaho and Maine are top options. NM also has some good bear hunting, but its touch and go because of the quota system (quota could be filled before your hunt). I think there's a fella here by the handle of PWN (or PWN375 or the like) that has been successful in NM with some nice bears.

| ...Thanks for the replies. While Alaska would be the destination of choice, the costs would be a lot higher than elsewhere in the States. Am I correct in saying (without wanting to offend anyone) that Idaho might have better or more interesting scenery? Is there likely to be a notable difference in prices between the two states? |

| One other important point; do these states offer spot and stalk, or baiting or what? |

No. Just different. Both have nice scenery. quote: Is there likely to be a notable difference in prices between the two states?
YES. quote: One other important point; do these states offer spot and stalk, or baiting or what?
I don't think baiting is an option in Alaska, but you can do both in Idaho. Maine would be bait only I think. If you want a spot and stalk or hound hunt, contact Johnnie Hamilton, johnniehamilton@eagletrackemoutfitters.com, 719-846-3559

| Maine would be baiting or with hounds. Spot and stalk doesn't really work, the woods are too thick! We have great fishing here too.

| As far as scenery here in central Idaho its sort of hilly and steep. It can be somewhat thick as well. Maine is not dull scenery wise at all, but its flatter. On the plus side you have the ocean.
If you choose Idaho, choose lower elevations which will give the area bears a longer growing season and they will be bigger on average. If you hunt high like the Lochsa, Selway, St. Joe, you will find them smaller on average but you can get 2 tags in some of those high areas. Bear tags are over the counter in this area and that may or may not be a factor for you. |

| Guided or do-it-yourself? Alaska is great for do-it-yourself. Spot and stalk. Prince of Wales is unequaled, and the fishing and blueberries are excellent to boot in the fall. Sept. |
