I say contact them and tell them what you think. I did. http://www.gips.org/2 Good Grief! Nebraska used to be a stronghold of conservatism. Three-and-a-half year old Hunter Spanjer, who is deaf, signs his name by crossing his forefinger and index finger and moving his hand up and down. To his family, friends and those who know the Signing Exact English (S.E.E.) language that the Grand Island, Neb., boy uses, that gesture uniquely means "Hunter Spanjer." But to Hunter's school district, it might mean something else. The district claims that it violates a rule that forbids anything in the school that looks like a weapon, reports KOLN-TV. And Hunter's parents claim that Grand Island Pubic Schools administrators have asked them to change their son's sign language name. "Anybody that I have talked to thinks this is absolutely ridiculous," Hunter's grandmother Janet Logue told the TV station. "This is not threatening in any way." Hunter's father Brian Spanjer said, "It's a symbol. It's an actual sign, a registered sign, through S.E.E." The family told KOLN that lawyers from the National Association of the Deaf may push for Hunter's right to sign his name at the school. Jack Sheard, Grand Island Public Schools spokesperson told KOLN, "We are working with the parents to come to the best solution we can for the child." One Grand Island resident said she disagrees with the school. "I find it very difficult to believe that the sign language that shows his name resembles a gun in any way would even enter a child's mind," Fredda Bartenbach said in the news report. .

A co-worker's second grade son was suspended from school. During recess he tore up some paper into bits, then throwing them up in the air and exclaiming 'bombs away'. That was deemed violent, potentially dangerious behavior. For that, he was suspended and his parents lectured about the signs of violence he was demonstrating. School officials expressed additional concern because they learned the Dad was a gun collector. They wanted the family to undergo counseling before the child would be re-admitted to the school. That wasn't a problem as the child was promply enrolled in a private school with a more conservative approach to things. People sleep peaceably in their beds at night because rough men stand at the ready to do violence on their behalf

The pussification of the American male continues. The liberal-run, panty-waist, PC school systems are doing everything they can to remove the last vestiges of masculinity from our boys and turn them all into little metrosexual pansies. It's utterly disgusting what these ridiculous "zero tolerance" policies have morphed into. _____________________ A successful man is one who earns more money than his wife can spend.

Couldn't agree more. That and the fact that every kid gets a trophy even if they are horrible at a sport or some other endeavor. Don't people realize that by falsely rewarding someone they are hurting them in the long run? A kid who tries out but stinks at baseball may become the next Bill Gates when he realizes he needs to try to find something he's actually proficient at. Crazy world!

I carried a Swiss Army knife in my pocket every single day of my school career after I was 10. In High School I had a pump 12 Ga in a riifle rack in the back windo of my truck and I'd hit a few sloughs and ponds for ducks either coming in or going home. When ducks weren't in season I'd target rabbits or pheasants. Many times my truck would be in the parking lt of the school with a mulie or a pronghorn in the bed. Funny thing is, I wasn't anywhere near being the only one like that when I went to school and I don't remember a single case of serious violence at any school in my area. Fights yes, but never anything serious. Different times I guess. Pirate
