They have to belong to PETA.

Dying deer given CPR

By Corey Wicks
Staff reporter

When it comes to concern for wildlife, people in Joseph put their mouth where their concern is.

Literally.

Wallowa County Detective Neil Rogers was called to a report of a deer that had been hit by a vehicle Sunday, July 2, in downtown Joseph. When Rogers arrived a crowd of people had gathered in the street and were in the process of pulling the deer out from underneath a trailer, Rogers said.

The deer was badly mangled but managed to wake up and stumble past the crowd. It then fell into a nearby creek and started drowning.

Rogers went to re-park his car and when he returned, two men were pulling the deer out of the creek.

“One guy was giving compressions and the other guy was giving it mouth-to-mouth,†Rogers said. “I couldn’t really look over there because I was starting to laugh too hard. It had to be one of the funniest things I’ve seen in law enforcement.â€

The detective didn’t know whether a person could contract any unusual diseases by giving CPR to a deer.

“I don’t even like touching those things without gloves. I couldn’t even imagine going to that extreme,†Rogers said.

The deer was too badly injured to survive, he said. Rogers then took the deer behind a building and shot it.

The detective didn’t know whether the first aid responders were locals, but speculated that they were “probably from Portland or somewhere.†He added, “they haven’t been around here much.â€

I came across across a car deer crash once. the trk that hit it just left. Passer by stopped just before a i pulled up. The women was in the ditch with the deer holding the deers head in her lap. Her first statement was the THAT TRK JUST HIT THE DEER AND TOOK OFF. My remark was so. She looked at me then the deer she said WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO. I said shoot the deer. She jumped up yelling OH NO OH NO took off running to her Mini van jumped it and tore off.

I went down to the deer moved it with my foot found out it was dead aready and walk away. Got back in the cruiser and was happy I didn't have to write a report for a deer crash nor one for fireing my side arm.

One should have seen the look on the gals face when I told her I was going to shoot it.

Many many years ago when I still existed in the People's Republik of Kalifornia, I was driving down Highway 5 to pick up a girl friend. This idiot in a nre Thunderbird goes flying past me like he' a Grand Prix racer and about then, a deer jumps out in front of him. Both he and the deer lost that arguement. The idiot was OK, but his car wasn't drivable anymore. The deer was dead but not badly mangled so i threw it ito the trunk of my car, picked up the girl friend, took the deer home and skinned and gutted it and put the quarters in the spare refrigerator. We got started late on the date, but most of the deer was salvagable and was pretty good eating. AFAIK, the idiot that hit the deer was still standing by the road looking at what was left of his car.Considering his attitude, i figured he didn't deserve a ride to find a phone. BTW Kommiepornia, it's been well over 35 years since that incident so back off.Statute if limitations ran out long ago.

LAST couple of years I was in uniform I was working for a small very rural PD. Over 2 years time I killed proabably 40-50 deer that had been car hit and were on the way out. I also had to drop a purebred registered black angus bull that weighed in at 1200 or so, but that is another story. Big Grin
you could always tell the difference between the locals and the tourists.

the locals would be openning their trunks to get out their knives and bags for the meat. the tourists would be turning white and showing utter horror at what was happening.

I had my back to them as one flatlander was just starting to explain to his child about how this horidly mangled deer was going to be taken to the deer hospital when in one motion, drew the .45 and blew Bambi's brains all over the ditch. He had been a gawker, not involved at all other than to get in the way. He tried to get irate and I told him if he had a problem to talk to the chief. He stopped and the chief told him he was lucky I didn't bag him too. Wink

I wonder what PETA would say if they were aware that the Chinese are killing the dogs with clubs. At least according to the newspapers over here. The Chinese think other means are too expensive due to the massive numbers of dogs they need to get rid of. Roll Eyes

a lot of deer get hit around here and there is rarely a shortage of people on the scene or passing by who, out of thge kindness of their hearts and concern for their fellow man who may work at the highway department decide to remove the deer and save someone else the trouble....

I still recall the look on a local state trooper's face after hye put two 9mm slugs into a deer and failed to kill it, my cutting it's windpipe with a single knife stroke did the trick...

He was starting to warn me to watch out for the hooves when from BEHIND the deer I put my foot on it's neck
(I weigh just shy of 300lbs and when I put my foot on something's neck it stays put) the trooper said "I guess you know what you are doing" I replied and I guess you don't, he said "you're probably right"....

I also recall the look of horror on a city womans face as she looked out her car window passing by real slowly as I
softened a deer's cranium with the hard end of a maglight flashlight after it had broken all of it's legs by broadsiding my pickup truck....

CPR to a deer? Bwhahahahahahaa!!!!

I live about a half hour north of Detroit. We have somegood patches of woods around here, and its nice to go for walks and observe the local wildlife. About 5 years ago, a little buck came tearing out of the woods about 4 blocks from my house, and ran into a car that was doing about 45 mph. Long story short, deer had a broken back, not dead, bystander got out of her car and reported a head on collision. Fire, PD, and an ambulance all showed up, looking for injure people. Woman caller said it's the deer, no people were hurt. As the fire fighters were walking back to the engine and ambulance, the cop on scene pulled out his pistol and shot the deer in the head, then asked who wanted it. Woman caller got irate, and the cop told her she was lucky he didn't arrest her for filing a false police report. The meat was good, too.

i teach a few college classes, and two things i have learned from my students are:
1. the peta folks are usually very serious regarding their beliefs towards animals
2. THEY ALL VOTE AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY!

since i hunt and don't try to hide that fact, we often get into discussions about our sport. one particular girl told me they (peta) will eventually get hunting abolished.

in my community i am surrounded by people who hunt. i also work at the polls during all local/state/federal elections. far LESS THAN HALF of the registered voters actually vote.

i hope everyone who visits here takes the opportunity to vote. i have no doubt our sport will be decided at the ballot box in the next 20 years.

LBGuy, from my handle you know I'm a college prof too. Have the same "problems" from my students. However, the first day of class, I tell them, "Life Ain't Fair, get over it."
I also work at the polls for primaries and full elections. To all of you out there, if you saw what LB and I see voting Roll Eyes, you'd make sure EVERY hunter (and fishermen too) voted.

It isn't just hunters who are at risk from PETA; we have a proposition on the ballot in AZ (Prop 204) that calls into question how farmers/ranchers do their business. Nothing is as dangerous as a clueless fanatic who can vote...

What was even funnier was on my way to go small game hunting a couple of years back I come across a cadillac (NY tags) stopped in the middle of a two lane country road with it's four way flashers going.

And older gentleman in the passengerside front seat quietly
sucking on his oxygen bottle and his wife (Older lots of gold jewlery, you know the type...) She's ovbiously very distraught (and actually crying) "I hit this poor dog and the people at the farmhouse say it's not their's" who do I call out here?

I look and say "Lady, just go home..."
"But I hit this poor dog, I have to contact it's owner!"

"Lady, I ain't never seen a coyote with a collar or a dog licence yet"

"but there aren't any coyote's in NewJersey?"

(Looking down) I say, that seems to be not the case....

at the time a coyote population wasn't officially recognized
and in the fish and game regulations it was stated that if one was caught in a trap it must be reported to Fish&Game..... (but the regulations said nothing about letting it go!)

before I got back in my car I said:
Lady, it isn't a dog, just go...

Some people....

Allan, that reminds me .NJ a few years ago introduced mountain lions into the area near Ft Dix to help control the deer population. They did in secret but the word finally got out. An elderly couple from NYC wanted to see the mountain lions [just drive along and there they are !!] They didn't know the area and drove and drove looking for lions until they ran out of gas. Then they called for help on their cell phone. My friend was one of the many searchers who spent hours looking for them in this very isolated area. Well since no one from Oregon piped in on this one, and this happened in Oregon..... them being from Portland says it all....

It is people from Portland Salem and Eugene who screw up this state so much....

Personally I hope the deer had CWD and it is communicable disease to liberals and PETA members....Natures way of getting rid of the weak and ignorant in the world...
