I put me and my brother in for G6, thinking it was an automatic point since we drew X2 in 2011... Well the lucky bastard drew! So G6 here we come! I've fished and camped the area, but never hunted deer there. Should be fun

Get hold of the assigned biologist for the zone and pick his brain for information. Also ask him for a spot kill map. It should get you a good head start. There are some studs in the zone especially december.

No luck here for Elk or Antelope with max points. Since California made the C zone a "premium" I put X5B as first choice and C for second, always getting C until last year. Had to settle for an over the counter B. This year my first choice was C with X3A as second as I live in the C zone. Got the C but not really excited as the deer herds have really to gone to hell since mountain lions became protected species in California. But that is another story. Jim "Bwana Umfundi" NRA

Worst year I’ve ever had on the draw! My daughter didn’t even draw the D5 doe tag. I have 3 friends that didn’t draw their C tag as their second choice so I’m hunting a new zone solo. Guess I used all my luck on the NV draw.

we used to see some monsters in X2 (about 10 years ago), which is why we put in for that tag a few years back. We drew it in 2011. Saw lots of deer, all small bucks, and none of us tagged out. I know a couple guys last year did about the same. Big bucks are taken every year though. Wish I had some good info to share, good luck on your hunt!

Huh..I don't even put in in my own state Mike Legistine actu quod scripsi? Never under estimate the internet community's ability to reply to your post with their personal rant about their tangentially related, single occurrence issue. What I have learned on AR, since 2001: 1. The proper answer to: Where is the best place in town to get a steak dinner? is…You should go to Mel's Diner and get the fried chicken. 2. Big game animals can tell the difference between .015 of an inch in diameter, 15 grains of bullet weight, and 150 fps. 3. There is a difference in the performance of two identical projectiles launched at the same velocity if they came from different cartridges. 4. While a double rifle is the perfect DGR, every 375HH bolt gun needs to be modified to carry at least 5 down. 5. While a floor plate and detachable box magazine both use a mechanical latch, only the floor plate latch is reliable. Disregard the fact that every modern military rifle uses a detachable box magazine. 6. The Remington 700 is unreliable regardless of the fact it is the basis of the USMC M40 sniper rifle for 40+ years with no changes to the receiver or extractor and is the choice of more military and law enforcement sniper units than any other rifle. 7. PF actions are not suitable for a DGR and it is irrelevant that the M1, M14, M16, & AK47 which were designed for hunting men that can shoot back are all PF actions. 8. 95 deg F in Africa is different than 95 deg F in TX or CA and that is why you must worry about ammunition temperature in Africa (even though most safaris take place in winter) but not in TX or in CA. 9. The size of a ding in a gun's finish doesn't matter, what matters is whether it’s a safe ding or not. 10. 1 in a row is a trend, 2 in a row is statistically significant, and 3 in a row is an irrefutable fact. 11. Never buy a WSM or RCM cartridge for a safari rifle or your go to rifle in the USA because if they lose your ammo you can't find replacement ammo but don't worry 280 Rem, 338-06, 35 Whelen, and all Weatherby cartridges abound in Africa and back country stores. 12. A well hit animal can run 75 yds. in the open and suddenly drop with no initial blood trail, but the one I shot from 200 yds. away that ran 10 yds. and disappeared into a thicket and was not found was lost because the bullet penciled thru. I am 100% certain of this even though I have no physical evidence. 13. A 300 Win Mag is a 500 yard elk cartridge but a 308 Win is not a 300 yard elk cartridge even though the same bullet is travelling at the same velocity at those respective distances.

I just got a local deer tag, but a friend drew a great bull tag. He's really excited.

Didn't even draw a La Panza cow elk. Oh well, I still have 2 A Zone tags to use on my place. Been seeing a few bucks around. Have gun- Will travel The value of a trophy is computed directly in terms of personal investment in its acquisition. Robert Ruark

Congratulations on the La Panza tag Mr. Flemming! I know there are some elk on public land in that zone, but a rancher has contacted me about some real reasonable access on a couple different ranches in the northern part of the La Panza zone. Let me know if I can be of any help. Great hunting, Kyler

Kyler is right. Save yourself a lot of headaches and try to get a reasonable access fee first. I hunted the La Panza 9 years ago near the Carrizo plane on a place called the American Ranch. A large Tule elk herd resides on the ranch but during hunting season, the grass is greener on the other side. The herd is enticed to a privately owned adjacent property. I watched for nine days while the ranch hands herded the elk away with trucks from the fences and constantly feeding them to keep them there. Which is totally illegal. DFG was notified and did nothing. The owner of the property lives in Texas and charges over $12,000 back then for the trespass fee. If you have the money and are vying for the elk slam, you paid! After the season they did not want to keep feeding them so they were released to return to public land. Best of luck to you .

Mlfguns I wonder if we crossed paths 9 years ago. I drew the cow tag before and am pretty sure it was 9 years ago. Me and my dad went in horseback on the American Ranch and got a cow the opening day. I remember talking to a few other hunters that day who had bull tags.

I remember a father son team from bakersfield with a cow tag but no horses. I did not see any hunters tag out. The son had a guide license. If it is you pm me.

mlfguns, I did the math and my cow hunt was in 2003. So we didn't cross paths.
