Has anybody out there ever used a heat seeker to hunt pigs and deer in the bush and if so how well do they work??? I have been thinking of trying one of these devices but at $350.00 to get it to New Zealand I thought it would be a good idea to ask if they work. The heat seeker or game finder sound like a good idea specially for finding shot and wounded game. Thanks for anybodies replies on this matter Long shot Lloyd

I've seen them advertized for "ethical" recovery of wounded game animals. I'm sure that it would be very easy for someone to unethically use them to locate animals to shoot, and that is probably why it is illegal to even possess one while hunting big game here in Montana. have you ever seen a trained deer stalking dog at work? assuming that you are allowed to use one, a good dog is worth it"s weight in gold if it can point deer. My lab is"nt the best deer dog in the world, but he can smell and hear anything that"s around long before i can. I like to heart/lung shoot everything, so if it runs into heavy cover then it"s no problem if i have the dog. I"d consider a dog as a "low tech" and much cheaper way of locating game, both shot and unshot! good shooting

Forget about it. The $350 handheld infrared "game finders" are little more than toys. They lack the sensitivity and selectivity necessary for the intended task. This is especially true in heavy brush and/or warm climates. No longer Bigasanelk

Save your money and not buy this junk!! I have one you can have for cheap. I never could get the hang of this thing. The foundation for old age is good memories.

My partner bought one a couple of years ago and after killing an elk we tested the device. It turned out to be virtually useless as we tested it as one would to find the downed animal.Even at about 25 feet it would not separate the freshly killed carcass from the surrounding terrain.

Concur with all the posts on heat-seakers being worthless. Had one for a December hunt when it was cold and snowy. Didn't work. .395 Family Member DRSS, po' boy member Political correctness is nothing but liberal enforced censorship
