Coues... I will be hunting in 35B ant whtl. There are quite a bit of Coues whitetail in this unit and have shot one before here. Id like to give a hint to AZ hunters without sounding stuck on myself... I get drawn every year for deer, I look in the back of the az fish and game regs and look at the odds of being drawn. The units with 80-100% success of being drawn are the ones no one wants. I pick them and get drawn. When you select 5 units with a draw rate of 80+ % it doesnt take much to figure your gonna get picked easly. Make no mistake THERE ARE DEER IN THEM HILLS!! I sometimes have gone home empty handed but it wasnt because I hadnt seen bucks. People oftan do not like these hunts because they are tuff, not the place to go, or they feel they are void of life. They can be tuff, but they are not void of life and some of the best bucks in our state are taken here. They are few, but if you learn to hunt deer and take time to glass, and know where to look you can be successful. I never hunt in the trendy places.... Think of it this way also... would you like to be almost certain to get drawn and may not be successful, or wait every2-3-5 years to get drawn and exchange gunfire in everyone elses unit. Id rather go home empty handed than not go at all, but thats only happend twice, and it wasnt because there were no deer. just my two cents
I do the same. I apply in 35a 34b every year 2001 was the first time ever that I didnt get a deer tag.Been deer hunting since I was 12. That has continued. I apply for 1st choice bull elk the rest cow every year and have never drawn a cow tag. I have only had 5 bull tags all in unit 1 and 27. I have tried for antelope for 25 yrs now and have never drawn a tag. Enjoy the hunt Coues

Coues? Whitetails only smaller? I was zero for 4 today.
My friend called me at work and told me he drew a late November mule deer hunt between Utah and the Colorado River in Arizona. Is that a good place to go for mule deer?
Coues, In 1997 I applied for an antelope hunt for the first time in AZ and drew with no bonus points. It was in unit 19AN and it was the first time I ever hunted with a muzzleloader. It was pretty good hunting for antelope.
2 for 3 in AZ. my son and i drew MULE DEER tags in 37b, this will be his 1st deer hunt. i went on my 1st deer hunt in 1976 in the same unit, and the same campsite, and dad and gramps started hunting deer in arizona in 1957 in the same exact place. there is a huge development coming right in the middle of this unit very soon, so i am very happy my son will at least be able to continue this tradition once before it`s gone. i also drew my 5th consecutive cow elk tag for the late hunt in unit 10. i hope this will be the year i actually see 1 live cow elk, much less get a shot at one. i have bulls and antelope and MULE DEER and even javelinas right in my campsite each year- but not 1 cow. i did not however draw an antelope tag for arizona unit 10. i did not really expect to as i only had 2 points, but next year i will have 3 points so look out- lol lol. i am now looking for a low cost antelope hunt somewhere. there must be a cancellation, underbooked, leftover, management, whatever somewhere right ????? well good luck.
I drew antlerless elk in area 1, bombed on deer and antelope. My biggest gripe is the pissant short seasons. Four day hunts suck big time. Either you go a few day ahead of time or try your luck starting opening day. First time for the late November hunt. Probably be in snow up to my hocks. I haven't heard yet, but I might have a cow elk tag on the White Mountain Res. The big hurt there is they raised the price of a tag from $375 to $425. I hope there will be a draw for left over tags. Guess I'll slip on over to New Mexico for one of their OTC deer tags. Paul B.

Add me to the list of those skunked. I thought for sure I would draw a coues tag this year. Guess the odds have gotten pretty long since they went to the credit card method.
Maybe next year.

Moved from Tucson to Lewiston in 1973 because I didn't draw a javlina the first year. I do miss the desert country and the great coyote calling. I do alot of calling up here just not as good. Big game hunting, all one could ask for. Pete
