I saw this over on the FALfiles and thought it so cool I got permission from the guy in the photo to post it here. So you CAN use other than a bolt gun to catch game, huh? Those FALs are nice. That's why I own two. [Smile]

"After getting my only scoped FAL ready for deer hunting last year with an accurate handload and lots of range time to dial it in and practice I passed a nice 8 point whitetail on the first day and saw nothing else worth shooting for the rest of the hunt.
I was determined not to let myself be skunked for a second year in a row so I took to the deer field again this year with renewed conviction and complete confidence with my equipment.
This is the result, not a trophy by any means but a very respectable (heavy body) whitetail for south central Texas, between Mason and Fredricksburg. Shot on the cold drizzly morning of November 6th with a 150gr Sierra flat base spitzer over 42 grains of IMR4895 w/ Fed. 210 primer (sub MOA in this FAL too). Entry was perfect just under the right shoulder, exit is evident in the pic. Needless to say this one did not go too far".

"Also, I lent out my Persian Mauser to another guy in the camp and he took a nice doe with it using my super good handload. His was the second deer shot with the Persian, the first being mine from three years ago. Mine was a nice 6 point buck at 230 yards from a elevated stand with the impact point about 1" from where I wanted it (center of neck). I'll be holding on to that rifle too!
Next up is the K31 which will get some load development next year, then perhaps the Swedish '96 in 6.5....."

I have done quite a bit of hunting with an H&K91. With it I have taken several deer, including my second biggest ever, and several antelope, also including my second biggest one. Also several turkey. I have taken turkey and javilina with an AR-15 and even 2 deer and a few prairie dogs with a Steyr AUG. The "para military" rifles make great hunting rifles, especially in foul weather.
The H&K has always been my lucky rifle. [Big Grin]
