Well...once AGAIN I came up empty in the draw. By the time I draw one of these damn things, I'll be over 100 years old. By that time, it will just be my pickled head in a jar over my robot body that goes hunting!!
It depends on the Unit you apply for. Look on the Wyoming game and Fish website under the "Draw Odds" section and it will show you how many points were required to draw a tag in a particular unit for a given year. From there you can guess which units will require more or less points. On a side note, some of the units near Yellowstone and Teton Parks are experiencing a large decline in the moose population and a subsequent reduction in tags. Therefore, it is hard to predict the number of points it will take to draw in one of these units.
25% are set aside for everyone, so only 75% is for max points each year. 3 Points? For a bull, you might be 80 when you draw. On points, but you still stand a chance at the 25%. Slim, but a chance. A cow, you could draw next year as a nonresident.
Ann, G&F, USF&W, say it is loss of habitat and the continuing drought, the outfitters and hunters say it is the wolves and grizzly bears. Some of the people that live in Sunlight Basin, 365 days a year and have lived there for 20+ years think it is the wolves. Maybe all combined! But the fact is the decline started about three years after the first release of wolves in that part of Wy.
It will be/is the wolves. Unfortunately all you hunters in Montana/Wyoming/Idaho will suffer. Wolves will continue to decimate herds. Look at what is happening in Yellowstone. I feel sorry for you because getting some type of wolf control out there will nearly be impossible! Feeling sorry from Alaska.
