I guess lightning struck since this is the first year I applied. I drew an either sex moose tag in E1 which looks like the highest success area in Vermont.

I'm looking for recommendations on guides, places to stay, etc.

Sincere congrats!!

I'm a Vermonter who never had luck and altho envious, wish you well.

You will need a local guide. Flat-out period. I don't know any personally but if you investigate online, you will find one.

My suggestion is to go up-scale if you can. In general, you can believe what the Vermont guys tell you - taking flatlanders for a ride doesn't go over well here.

Hey, good, great luck. (I gave up)

My buddy and I hunted that area a few years ago and saw a lot of moose. I can try and dig out my notes if you need some contacts and general information.

Word has it moose numbers are way down, HALF of the usual 1400 or so permits were issued. I think a little over 700 were issued this year. Please post in this forum and someone will hopefully be able to direct you to someone who will guide you. Let me know if no one responds as I have one other option.

Thank you so much. I've posted on the Vermont forum. Hopefully I'll get some good recommendations.

Wanderer,
My brother in law drew a either sex tag last year for E2 and I was the second(the guy who helps get it out of the woods) on the permit. We took a nice bull moose on the third day of the hunt. He was coming into cow calling as the rut, though near its end, was still on.

At the check station there were a few moose much bigger in antler then this one, but I bet they were none more delicous!

Good luck with your hunt.

Wanderer,
I'll have to check but a fellow in town has property I think in E 1. He wants moose shot as they are ruining all the softwood growth for deer. He has a camp, knows the are well ect.
I had a tag last year, and had an aussie pal on as second shooter. I got him onto a nice one. I think Ann has the picture, I couldnt post one if I wanted to. Send me a PM and I'll get back to you.
