I just ordered a box of these for my 270. Would like to hear of your experiences regarding this bullet on deer and elk, in this particular caliber. I'll try several powders to see what my gun likes. Suggestions for loads is appreciated. Thanks

If you do your job the Nosler Partition will do the rest. It is a great bullet that performs the same in pretty much all calibers and weights. I have yet to recover one from a deer. They exit leaving a very large hole.

I could throw evertything I can on this load but my gut is going to tell you a story. A short one at that. I'm not to old compared to the veterans of this site but Hunter Ed instructor, that I hunted with for a few years, swore by the 150 grain Partition for everything and I have to say that he has made a mark on me after seeing what that load does and how remarkable it is.

Just my advice, If the 130's don't make you completely happy try the 150's. They are a whole new ball game in performance and the trajectory is barely different.

Powder's: I've been told H4831, IMR 4831, H 4350, IMR 4350, and ESPECIALLY Reloader 19 and 22....for 130'-150's

Or try the 160 gr NPs.

My M70 shoots them to the exact POI as 130 gr Gamekings (at 100).

130 NP's with high 50's 4831 has been a standard for a long time. I've shot about 20 critters with it up to elk and blue wildebeest.

That said there are probably some better wunder bullet choices; Failsafe, Barnes, etc., etc.

Find something that shoots consistent in your rifle and go forth and slay things.

For years I used IMR 4350 and found it to work very well. Since R22 came out that is about all I've used in the 270.

I've yet to find another powder that will duplicate the speed I get and the accuracy is superb as well.

I'd try R22 first and then go to IMR 4350 and next H4831.

Good luck

My present do everything load in my 270 is the 150 grain Partition Gold pushed by 58.5 grains of H4831. Hot and accurate in my rifle.

Great bullet choice. Try IMR-4350 H-4831 and my preference RL-22

Thanks men. I am new to reloading, but have used factory loaded 150gr NPs in my 270 for several years, with great results on deer, black bear, and even moose. I think I'll keep the 270 as my whitetail gun, so I want to find the most accurate load (w/130gr NPs) for my rifle. I knew I could get some decent suggestions from this board. I don't have a chrono, but can anyone tell me the approx fps I might expect out of a 24" tube? Thanks again

I loaded the 130 NP's for a long time in my .270 and had excellent results on deer and even took a couple elk out to 150 yards. I used 54 grains of IMR 4350 with Federal GM210M primers. Accuracy in my gun was around 1".

I had a couple bad experiences with them on black bears and ended up switching to 140 gr. Hornady IL's, with excellent results. If I had chosen the 140 NP, I probably would have been just as happy, but I was a little disapointed in Noslers at the time, so I went with the Hornady's.

As a thought though, being that your just starting to reload, the Hornady Inter-Locs are a pretty decent bullet and less than half the money of the NP's. They shoot well in lots of different guns and are great for building up loads because they're cheaper, then I sub in a Nosler, Barnes or Swift when most of the paper work is done. If nothing else, they are great for cheaper shooting practice.

Just to give you an idea of velocity my load is as follows:
130gr. partition / 57grs. of IMR 4350=3145fps. with a 24in. barrel. I use Win. brass and CCI#200 primers. In my rifle this is a safe but stiff load.
My rifle is a pre64 Win. wearing a standard weight barrel I paid $50 for at a gunshow. 3
shot groups easly run under an inch.
BTW, before I shot out the orginal 22in. featherweight barrel that same load shot about 95fps. slower. Pete

My experience loading for the 270Win is similar to other's
who posted above...

IMR4350 is the "traditional" propellant for the 270Win
but I was never particularly pleased with the results.

the three 270's I've developed loads for all prefer
loads built around RL22 though they have different preferences in specific bullet.
The only 270 still in the family is my brothers and that rifle
is happier with 150's try both weights in your rifle and use which ever shoots better because if there is any differenc ein terminal performance it must only become visible on larger animals than I've seen shot with either...

In my Winchester 70, I use 60 grains of H4831 with the 130 grain NP. I use 58.5 grains of H4831 with the 150 grain NP.

Thanks for the replys thus far. I had both a 300 win mag M700 Sendero and a 300 wsm M70 classis/stainless. Killed several deer with the sendero and a couple elk with the wsm. Sold them both and now just use a M700 stainless 270 and a new M700 stainless 06'. I have found an accurate load w/180gr NPs in the 06 for deer and elk, and just looking for the ideal 130gr load for the 270. I really appreciate your responses.

nOT A BAD BULLET FOR OLD TEC. IT WILL GET THE JOB DONE. IF YOU WANT THE BEST OUT THERE TRY THE BARNES .270 130GR TSX.

it may well be old tec-but it is still no doubt the bullet that set the stage and the bar.

I too though use the TX for 95% of my trips anymo.

The Nosler Partition is in a class by itself. It combines the explosive characteristics of the Ballistic Tip causing great tissue destruction while also providing extremely deep pentration. These are the characterisics that cause quick and humane kills on game. They don't look nice when recoverd and only retain 60-70% of there weigh none of which actually has anything to do with dead animals. They just work and work very well. There really has been nothing that has come along in the last few years that makes them obsolete.

Jeff,
Have you shot with a chrony? I loaded some Sierra 130s in a 270 with 55 gr H4350 and averaged 2930 fps.
I loaded 130 TSXs with 54 gr of H4350 and averaged 3050 pfs and less recoil.
Unusual to use less powder and get more speed with the same weight bullet. Also tested them on the same day so conditions were the same.

Nosler 130 grain partition, 55.0 grains of 4350...I have killed tons of deer with this load and not a single failure, missed deer, or lost deer YET (with that load). It works great! Question #1 for you would be does it shoot good enough (to your standards) in your rifle? If so, you will have a winner of a bullet for hunting.

Best of luck
