For those of you with experience hunting in Kansas could you give me some overall information on it in general statewide and specifically to the Flint Hills. I'm interested in all types of hunting especially deer, coyotes, bobcats, turkeys, but would appreciate info on any species.

And what about tag availability for residents and non residents

thanks

It's been 15 years since I had the pleasure of hunting the flint hills near Manhattan, KS. The deer in that area will more than likely be whitetail. The muleys are around, but that is whitetail country. The flint hills has great praire chicken hunting. You shouldnt have any trouble finding the coyote, as they are plentiful there. The duck hunting on the Kaw river is awesome in late nov, dec. It's a nice area, sometimes wish I hadnt left it.

How are you going to hunt bobcats? There are high populations of them in the Flint Hills, but I think they are basically all trapped if they are harvested at all. Calling could work, but with the huge numbers of coyotes and foxes I would think they would be the first to answer the call. Bobcats, also, are basically nocturnal.

I saw a mother bobcat and several kittens on the road below the dam on John Redmond Reservoir some years ago, and heard a bobcat scream about 20 feet behind me one evening when I was catfishing near El Dorado. That will pucker your sphincter.

Deer are a problem for Flint Hills farmers. Much of the farmland there is recovered from cattle range and is irrigated. The deer will follow the creek and river beds, but come out in evening to feed in the fields.

There are lots of hunters in Kansas, but lots of deer.

I never thought Kansas was worth much for pheasants, but there are quite a few out around Greensburg and Platte. Quail shooting is good in the east. Turkeys are everywhere, it seems.
