George, I am trying to determine the best way to get a LH 300 WSM. I posted a month ago asking about the Winchester 70 in the LT that were supposed to be out already. I think we left it at they are supposed to be out in Sept??? I only ordered 1 MRC 1999 in a LH LA Mag config. I called and Emailed and found that the SA's in LH will be out before I get my LA I already paid for. Or atleast that was the answer I got. Still, no one inlets for any of the LH's yet, and I'd bet the LH SA's will be the last to be done. Realistically, probably a year out on a build up project with a MRC 1999 action. ( action/500, barrel/250, McM/450 and smithing/500 = $1700 min). I got connected with a co-worker equipped with FFL. Got to look at the "real catalogs". Noticed CZ is supposed to coming out with a LH #3 in WSM in stainless/walnut. I called and inquired, and to settle a prior "myth" they said Winchester has not shipped any 70's in either Featherweight or LT and the CZ's have not shipped yet either. If I did build a gun, it would be in stainless. I could care less about the stock, as I am a synthetic guy, but the CZ combo does look real nice. I would be getting the caliber and basic configuration in the material of my preferance all in one shot, and not nickel and diming and throwing stuff away and changing out things. What I am asking to you or others more knowledgeable than me, is, what kind of quaility would you expect out of the CZ#3 ?? Says made in USA. Rate along with a Win 70, in quality and accuracy ???? It's listed as a good bit more than the Winchesters wholesale, in the lower $700's. Is it worth the money ???? I am not made out of money and don't "need" another gun, but the difference in price to me, is the cost of a Leupold and an extra Impala next year. I actuall caught myslef looking at the Savages again, so please help.

the Model 3 is being produced by MRC for CZ. It is not a CZ action. Dan @ MRC said that all paid-for charter actions would be produced before any were sent to CZ. Never having seen an MRC action, I cannot tell if it is as good as an M-70, or better, or worse. The actions are cast for them by Ruger's Pinetree Casting, then they are machined to MRC's specs by outside contractors. USRAC produces almost all their M-70s in-house (some Custom Shop rifles are produced by other companies (my Custom Sporting SharpShooter was built by H-S Precision on an M-70 action)). If you want a LH .300WSM right now , Savage has produced the 16FLSS in the WSMs (two-round magazine capacity). Otherwise, it's wait for the M-70 Featherweights and their three-round magazine capacity, but they won't be stainless steel, just blued. George

I do hate to wait, but if the CZ is the same as me buying the action and having it rebarreled, and then stocked, it's much cheaper to get the entire package together. Now after speaking to MRC, and everyone else still waiting for their "round one" actions, I am sure the wait for a complete rifle will be another year. I am sure I could get a different caliber and configuration, but that wasn't the original goal. Thanks yall. If I missed something let me know, but think I've got all of the lefty WSM options covered. I guess now it's a "race" between Winchester and CZ. Any opinons or guesses who'd get the rifles out first ????

I would think USRAC will win that race. I would be surprised if CZ could ship the Model 3 before the end of the year, considering all the delays MRC has experienced with the Charter runs. It looks like the wood on the CZ Model 3 is a nicer grade than what USRAC shows on their website, but wood is always a hit-or-miss proposition. I'm not enamored with the WSM cartridges anyway. The 7mmWSM doesn't compare to my 7mmSTWs, the .300WSM can't match my .300Wby. In cartridges of this class, velocity is king, and the WSMs can't keep up with the .375H&H-length cartridges. The only WSM that even remotely interests me is the .270WSM. However, I already have two LH .270s, a 1989-vintage Model 700FS (parkerized finish, camo'ed Brown-precision ADL stock), and a M-70 Stainless Classic. If I felt I needed more velocity with a .277" bullet, I'd rechamber one of the above to .270 Ackley and be done with. Therefore, I doubt I'll get a WSM (but one never knows ). George

I honestly don't know why I have to have one ??? Like you, I have several that may fit the bill better. I have a 300 Wby in 700 KS that feels pretty light. A crazy accurate 338 Win in 700 and a nice 350 Rem custom/synth. on a Savage action that hold MOA to 300 yards. Honestly, I guess I've just always wanted a stainless rifle. The thought of heading to Africa with a 300 WSM and Failsafes and being able to shoot thru anything is a nice daydream. Recently moved up here to WA in the rainforest and wanted a working rifle that I can really use and not worry about. By the time I am done dressing them up and tricking them out, I baby them too much. I don't mean muzzle down for a crutch, but dingable and scratchable, but still accurate. My 350 Remington is tefloned and 22". I probably have about the ultimate rainforest blacktail/bear wacker already Already waiting for a MRC 1999 to have made in 375 Ultra. I am aware that these are not the most popular ideas, and an Eland may not require a 375 Ultra, but load development out to 300 on steel should make me smile. I actually already have a 6.5 WSM that just gave me a little over an inch at 300 with Partitions. Would like to take it and the Ultra next May or so for a first time, but heard headstamps on the brass are an issue. I am sure it's been covered a milion times, but PC too slow to search effectively.

Jesse, If you want the WSM for the rain forests, a fiberglass stock will be preferable, IMO. McMillan makes a nice one for the M-70; the Savage 16FLSS already has one, but it is like 'Tupperware'. As far as headstamps go, no one has ever checked my ammunition (four safaris). Of course, it's just as likely that they'll check the next time. You might be able to get some custom-stamped brass from someone. No, an eland doesn't require a .375RUM, but so what? I used a .375H&H on mine. A 6.5WSM and .375RUM would be a nice battery for a plains game or buff/plains game, but be mindful that some countries want a minimum of 7mm for some game. George
