and doesn't want anyone to know it's luck.
Watch the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m94KL_1W3-I

I'm no huge fan of Buck, but if I'm in the mood to watch a little hunting on TV, he'd do. I'm not at all impressed after watching this vid. He places his barrel in the sticks rather that the stock, and predictably misses a standing shot in high wind at over 300 yds. Then, Buck decides that since he couldn't make a shot on an animal standing still and broadside, that a running shot is just the ticket. He accidentally hits the antelope, still resting his barrel on the sticks, as it is running and plays it off as one of his best shots ever. I've twice posted that this was luck and if he knew his ass from a hole in the ground (though much more politely), he'd know that you can't rest your barrel on something without changing POI. He's twice removed my comment from his video. He has another pig hunt where he places his barrel on the stick also. I have respect for most of the PH's out there, but Buck has lost mine. Not that I considered him top of the food chain anyway, but come on. How do you get that big of a show going without knowing basic marksmanship?

What a poser!
During the re-enactment of the shot off the sticks he couldn't even hold still, waving his barrel around like a sparkler on the 4th of July, nice work Buck!

What a fine example of what not to do! What amazes me though is the absence of all the usual anti hunter hate spewing you see in the comments of a good hunt video, in this one you have all these idiots praising him like he is some kind of hunting god.

He or one of his staff is scrubbing the board. I've made three comments now. All are gone. That is pretty chicken shit IMHO.

Never heard of this guy either but what a tool. Looks like he will fit in with many of the TV shows out there, nothing but reinacted shots and spliced footage. (This is where I would insert a vomiting graemlin if we had one). I'll be sure to keep an eye out for this guy on Versus, they seem to thrive on taking parts and pieces of footage and making shows out of it.

Never been able to stand him--or Tred Barta either for that matter. Both do a a great disservice to ethical hunters everywhere. This is the kind of behavior the antis thrive on and it helps their misguided message that it is portrayed on television as skillful.

In my opinion a running shot at 300-350 yd in a strong wind at anything other than a wounded animal is just irresponsibe.

I think Buck has been mentoring ol' Tex Grebner. If you haven't seen Tex Grebner Outdoors on Youtube, I recommend him highly (for entertainment purposes only). Check out his video on the 10/22 as a zombie killer. And his 'tactical' marlin lever gun. I guess it takes all kinds, and many don't know the difference anyway.

I saw this yesterday, watched his video, and posted this reply on youtube:

"That was one of the LUCKIEST hunting shots that I have ever seen. A good marksman would NEVER rest his barrel on a rest, only his stock. An ETHICAL hunter would NEVER take a 300yd shot at a running animal, especially in a high wind, unless it was wounded."

Today my reply was deleated from youtube.

That shot was irresponsible and should never have been taken. I didn't know who Buck Neely was before, but I sure have an opinion now -- and it's mighty low.

And what a joke that site is. THey wipe out any comments they want to.

I wrote: "Considering the wind, range and the fact the barrel and not the forend was placed onto the shooting sticks, this had to qualify as the world's unluckiest antelope."

You guessed it. That comment was deleted.

It's like posting at Graybeard Outdoors... Roll Eyes

I found the following listed as sponsors of his show:

Savage Arms
Johnsonville (the sausage company)
Dupli-Color
Stapel knives
Muck Boot Company

It also stated the following:

The Outdoorsman with Buck McNeely premiered in 1985 - on one TV station in Cape Girardeau, Missouri! Since then, it has become the largest syndicated outdoor adventure series in the USA.

I don't see how this can be true as it appears nobody on this thread has even heard of the slob before now.

I watched his show for the first time a few weeks ago in MT with a couple of hunting buds.....20 minutes into it and I still wasn't sure if he was doing a parody or not. Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. The landscape before the shot and after were in a different time zone. It was a field abutted by hardwoods prior to the shot and then the deer was down in marsh with palms in the background.

His kids were with him and one was picking his nose and ass, and the other looked like he was only there under duress.

Saddest excuse for a hunting show I've ever seen. The Outdoor Channel must really be hurting for programming.

Does anyone else get a little miffed when you see a complete moron who is seemingly successful though utterly incompetent? bewildered I can understand the jerk who rises to the top because he has oodles of talent despite being a jerk, though I wouldn't want to be around him in camp. I can also understand the really good-natured guy who maybe lacks a little skill, but is so enthralled in and enjoying the process that he oozes enthusiasm and is a pleasure to live vicariously through. Reluctant kudos to a guy who is doing what we all love for a living, even though he is utterly clueless about doing it well and is certainly someone I'd absolutely avoid socially.
