Several years ago I ended up buying a Ruger 96 44mag carbine.

I mounted a 1,5 by 4x scope on it, sighted it in with some 240gr Winchester JSP's and put it in the safe.

I carried it a couple of time for a few hours but never shot anything with it.

Well having some unfilled tags I decided. I might has well try and kill something with it.

Yesterday was the last day of Wisconsin's regular 9 day modern firearms deer season.

About 10 min before the end of legal shooting time. About a 120lb doe presented herself at 100 yards give or take a few.

I placed the cross hairs near the back of her front shoulder and a bit lower.

At the shot she jumped and was favoring her left front leg.

A little bit later my son and 6yoa grandson showed up.

As we searched the area by son found a wide blood trail on the snow. Blood spray on each side making it easy to follow.

We followed it for about 100 yards give or take some.

During field dressing we noticed an entry and exit wound.

When I pulled the heart out it was basely cut/blown in half.

Thinking about it this is the first deer I have shot with a factory round in many decades.

Why because I acquired them in deal no use letting perfectly good ammo go to waste.

More good meat in the freezer.
