GH-
Would love to know what load you are using. 2940fps with a 200gr bullet is a long ways from anything I ever recorded in my 300s with this bullet.

It's a compressed load of H1000 79.5grs, Fed. GM brass, Fed.215M pimer, 200gr Nosler part. moly coated.
Brass is full match prepped COL:3.345"
2940fps is avg. for 20rds, ES is 27fps
Barrel is 26"
if need it I'll get you the lot # of the H1000
I tried H4831sc today also but 2850fps is all it would do with the best groups at 2725fps - 1"

Hey John S, GH's Load is below the MAX for H1000 in the Hodgdon #26 and appears to be right in line with their results.

I use an H1000 load (in a different caliber) that I load with a 3' Drop Tube and it is the only thing I've had shoot in that rifle as good as the old discontinued H450.

I've used H1000 in a couple of 7mmRemMags for a very long time and it is my powder of choice for that caliber. For what it is worth, I've found that I can use anywhere from 0.5-1.0gr more of H1000 behind Nosler Partitions than some other bullets with the same Pressure Ring Expansion. Also have enough "touching" 2-shot groups with H1000/Partitions that I know it is not a fluke. The 3rd shot "generally" keeps the group in the 5s-8s, but that might just be me.

Hey GH, Sounds like an excellent outfit you've put together. I sure do like the barrel contour on those M70 Black Shadow rifles. I carry a lot of light rifles and a lot of heavy rifles during the year. That particular contour just seems to balance the whole M70 outfit to perfection. (I've got a buddy with one and it is a real shooter with him yanking the trigger too.)

i must admit i'm well pleased with this rifle/scope combo. the only other thing i plan to do is replace the stock with a Boyds JRS. and work up some 150, 165 grain loads.

I will have to give that H1000 a try! The 2850fps area is what I most commonly see in my loadings, which is quite effective but I'd like more! That loads is nipping at the heels of my best 300Wby loads, which average about 3050fps with the 200gr.

I also have the BLack Shawdow 300 WM. Mine is topped with a Burris Black Diamond. I picked mine up for $375. I bought it for a one time elk trip this fall. After working some loads up and shooting the rifle for a while, I've decided to keep it for a long range white tail rifle. Mine will shoot 165 Sierra BTHP's .75 at close to 3200 fps. Not bad out of a "cheap factory rifle". I'm still working on my elk loads.

worked up some loads with 165gr Hornady SSTs and VVN165 today, vary accurate!
84.5grs of VVN165
165gr SST moly coated
Match preped, neck sized Fed. GM brass
Fed 215M primers
3310fps for 10rds, ES 34fps
.680" avg. 2-5 shot groups.
looks like this will be my deer load!
